Re: Why do people dislike Cross Fit?

I think this is a very important observation.

Re: P90x

"The strength and value of CrossFit lies entirely within our domination of other athletes. This is a truth derived through competition, not debate."

I'm don't entirely agree with this method of...

Re: 1st Elements Class hit me like a truck 4 non athlete

It isn't that hard to predict. In the first post the poster says she is 277# and "never exercised my entire life, obese, sedentary". Being heavier means she has a lot more weight to move in the...

Re: But, but, they're so big....

I was pointing out why size matters. Getting hit by a larger object causes more damage.

Another thing to consider about high school football is that the injury rate in games is considerably higher...

Re: But, but, they're so big....

One problem is that if a light player (150#) is hit by a heavy player (300#) the heavy player won't slow much and the light player's body will suddenly have to speed up a lot. That generates a lot of...

Re: But, but, they're so big....

I'm going to try reading between the lines here :)

St. Georges is a private boarding school that has a competitive academic admission process. Their students take a lot of AP classes and go on to...

Re: Study finds correlation between C.O.G. and Speed

Your observations are true, but I disagree with your conclusions. The problem is that in a lot of countries race is well correlated with a host of environmental factors: income, where you live,...

Re: Study finds correlation between C.O.G. and Speed

I think that sprinting just isn't as important in those countries. Germany and Scandinavian countries dominate the winter Olympics, with a medal count that is disproportionate to their population....

Re: Study finds correlation between C.O.G. and Speed

That is interesting, but not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about which sport/position an athletic child will be guided to. Take a young kid in the US who is fast, well-coordinated and...

Re: Study finds correlation between C.O.G. and Speed

By now part of the problem will be that parents/coaches are themselves biased and push darker kids to speed positions and lighter kids to slower positions starting at an early age. Kids will also...

Re: What Vegas Hotels Have the Best Gyms ?

My experiences:

The Venetian has a nice gym. I'm talking about the hotel gym, not the one in the Canyon Ranch Spa, which is also inside the Venetian but isn't as nice. The gym was quite large, had...

Speaking of hotel gyms:

On my one trip to India I stayed at a hotel which had a pretty standard gym room except the treadmill was on a UPS. I knew that Delhi had fairly frequent power outages but I...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

This might be the wrong forum to ask people if they will pay $240/month for workout classes. ;)

In the Seattle area Crossfit Gyms are charging from $160/month (e.g. Urban Crossfit) to $199/month...

This comes up often when people discuss Crossfit. The standard answer is something like:

"Coaches and teachers and leaders are judged by their athletes'/students'/organizations' performance not by...

Re: Gymnastics Bodyweight Strength Challenge

First point: I'm guessing that if you are a competing gymnast there wouldn't seem to be any point in increasing your barbell strength (but I don't actually know anything about gymnastics).

Looking...

Re: Gymnastics Bodyweight Strength Challenge

You have extremely impressive relative strength (as your video demonstrates -- I am jealous). On the other hand, if you are considering absolute strength a 300-400# deadlift is weak (a 300-400# power...

I've seen some threads (e.g. the recent Eva interview thread) be removed completely while others get moved to Pukie's bucket. I'm wondering how the moderators decide which threads get moved to...

Re: Dynamic Duo: Crossfit + Raw Vegan Diet

Thanks for the insight into what a raw vegan diet looks like. I see you are taking in about 2,600 calories and 50g of protein. What is your height/weight? What strength level do you have...

Re: Rippetoe's recent comments on Crossfit

When you want to measure power output across "broad time and modal domains" maximal strength becomes very important because it determines the modal domain where your power output drops to zero. A...
