Re: Functional Movement System - FMS

I am FMS L1 and found it to be informative and moderately useful. I think a good CrossFit coach will see the same mobility and stability inefficiencies quickly in a few movements. I would not spend...

Re: Resistance band shelf life?

Just had to replace 40 Rogue bands, they keep fraying and so do the replacements. Sending them all back. Anyone else have this happen? We mainly use them for pull ups & dips and not adding to...

Re: Buyer Beware: Wright Rubber

I am still using most of the brass Wright bumpers after 5 years in a big box... while the steel inserted ones barely last a year... I would pay extra to go back to brass. They get loose but that is...

Re: Level 2 CrossFit Instructor???

Great discussion... but remember most of us started as crappy coaches and got better over time. I am very glad HQ let me get L1 and own an affiliate with $1000 and a weekend (in 2008). I am sure that...

Re: Affiliate membership pricing/tips

Great questions Brenden. Yes there is money left over, we are doing very well. My family is well supported and we use the extra to expand the business every month. Now at 250 members since I posted...

Re: Failed Boxes

Well, I have seen a couple fail (as in close the doors because they don't make enough money to stay open). In all cases it was the result of a poorly managed business and probably not related to...

Re: Now that Anthos is defeated let's take a look into this

Great discussion, just need to check some attitudes (we are all on the same team!). This thread voices my biggest concern as a long standing Crossfit affiliate.

Background: A major globo gym in my...

Re: Early morning attendence

We have a consistent 10-15 people in both 5a and 6a... but it wasn't always like that, took time to grow. At first we offered an "early bird discount" of $10 off per month for people that only went...

Re: Making contacts in the Willamette Valley - Dallas, Monmouth, Independence Area

I know there are other Crossfitters in Sheridan and Dallas. I sold a pull up rig to a place in Sheridan and a bunch of equipment to a guy in Dallas whose wife was L1. They are not CF affiliates yet...

Re: Crossfit Business Plan

I started my box with about $500 (after affiliate fee's and insurance) in my 1 car garage. I had no "cash flow plan", "business plan" or expectation to take over the world. In Chris's definition I...

Re: Business Plan - At what point does the membership plateau of at an affiliate?

As an engineer I did all kinds of projections, spreadsheets, and plans in the early stages... they were all crap. Treat each and every client like training your Mom, make sure they get awesome...

Affiliate membership pricing/tips

Hey all, just trying to offer a few words of advice for the newer affiliates and any box trying a variety of things to increase membership and revenue. I see membership pricing and discount campaigns...

Re: Tips on making horse stall mats stay...

2.5" concrete screws, hammer drill the holes first (tapcon screws come with the drill bit). Use a 1/2" washer and sink it down in the mat. It works and doesn't take that long or cost that much! I...

Re: Stereo or sound System

Go with a pair of PA speakers (15" or bigger woofers), a small mixer board, and about a 2,000 Watt Amp. This is what we have for 4,000 sq. ft. and it rocks. Total cost was about $1,200 and it is all...

Re: Marketing

Good comments and I learned a lot from this thread. My affiliate has benefited a lot from offering things other than just daily WODs! Put an add on Craigslist for personal training, I run about 5-10...

Re: Wright bumper plates ???

I have used Wright rubber for three years, hard. They are beat up but keep on workings. Lately the best deal is Troy VTX colored rubber. Better steel inserts that don't pop out and they are close on...

Re: Working out with clients

I think there is a time and place for it, you need to judge the class and the abilities in it verses the WOD at hand. I get some negative comments when I DON'T participate... everyone wants to take...

Re: How to have a successful CrossFit

Man I guess I am old school too... I wonder how many of these financed Big Box CF Gyms will last? I know one that opened this way with a ton of debt and no solid plan or clients... they lasted 6...

Re: Price Plan

Offerring only drop in or unlimited classes will significantly limit your monthly income and future growth, thats the bottom line. Of our 100 clients about half have less that unlimited, thats a lot...

Re: Unlimited access to classes or set classes

We think having 2x, 3x, and Unlimited will maximize your earning potential. I highly recommend a less expensive way to get people to try Crossfit (ie 2x a week) because they will like it and upgrade....

Re: Prices

I think he is saying "if your customers think you’re too expensive" then you are attracting the wrong type of people.

I agree 100%, but it is really hard in an area where the average family income...

Re: New (non-affiliate) box opening ...what am I forgetting?

I have seen several good trainers try to do this and they all failed, you will grow much faster if you affiliate... it is well worth the money purely as a return on investment. You will have to sell...

Re: Scam?

If you advertise on Craigslist you will get a lot of these... I have gotten about ten from people claiming to want to purchase blocks of training for thier kids, all are scams.
