Re: My SLAP Journey...

Sorry things are not progressing as fast as you'd like Gravel. From my reading, the time line for recovery is 6-12 months, 6 being the fastest possible. But it can take 1-2 years to reach something...

Re: My SLAP Journey...

Congrats Alisha. Sadly my visit to the Consultant's this morning was not so positive. I'm still getting my head round what he said, so here's the short version:

- The PASTA lesion that he...

Re: My SLAP Journey...

Good luck with your surgery Rob.

Gravel you're right to bring up those who have recovered well, as they are the kind of people who are unlikely to come to post on an injury forum. Yesterday for...

Re: My SLAP Journey...

Sounds like you should look for a different physiotherapist Mikael. That research you helpfully posted showed that most people had returned to full function when reassessed between 2-3 years after...

Re: My SLAP Journey...

Hi Mikael, that link is an interesting read, thanks for posting it. For those without the patience to read a full medical report, the short version is: for an arthroscopic Bankart repair (type of...

Re: My SLAP Journey...

Great post Michael, it's good to hear you're doing so well.

That's a bucket load of epa+dha you're taking. How did you decide on 11g? Are you spreading it out throughout the day or all in one go?

Re: My SLAP Journey...

Not that I'm condoning this, but just as a comparison I know someone who's had a repair done with plugs just 3 months ago and did a muscle up last week! I imagine that 24 months is right at the end...

Re: Torn Rotator Cuff (PASTA) possible Labrum (SLAP) from Butterfly Pullups

Still not got the results through from my scan 3 weeks ago. The downside to the free National Health Service in this country, is it's sloooow!

I've put together a post on my blog that details the...

Re: My SLAP Journey...

I'm no expert either Michael, but I don't think that's right. I was under the impression that if you're getting cold, the body reduces blood flow to that area because it doesn't want cold blood...

Re: My Rotator Cuff Injury

Theresa, are you saying that it has taken 3 years to get pain free, or that your surgery was 3 years ago and you've been pain free for a while?

Re: My SLAP Journey...

That makes a lot more sense to me than simply icing. Sure ice numbs pain, but it also (I believe) restricts blood flow, which is not what you want when rehabilitating tendons as their blood flow is...

Re: My SLAP Journey...

As Steven said, it's the total combination of EPA and DHA that's important. For reference, Dr Sears suggests that a health adult with no ailments should take 2.5g (2500mg) of EPA/DHA combined per...

Re: My Rotator Cuff Injury

Hi Heather, what specifically has been bad? Do you mean the whole thing, or the surgery, or the pain, what?

Re: dull left shoulder pain

Is that 10 grams of total fish oil, or 10 grams of EPA and DHA (the good stuff) combined?

Re: Getting back to Sports after shoulder surgery?

Hi Hpone.

Having read almost every shoulder (rotator cuff and labrum) tear post on these forums, the consensus seems to be that it takes at least 6 months, but more likely 9-12 months to return to...

Re: Torn Rotator Cuff (PASTA) possible Labrum (SLAP) from Butterfly Pullups

Gravel, you were spot on about the contrast injection, it was very unpleasant but not very painful.

I had my arthrogram and MRI on Tuesday. I don't have any results yet but have stuck up a post...

Re: My SLAP Journey...

That's great news Gravel! Looks like you've turned a corner, congratulations.

Interesting about the fish oil, what kind of dose are you taking (of DHA/EPA combined)?

I was in for my MRA yesterday...

Re: My SLAP Journey...

@Michael: Don't be disheartened, I'm sure the surgery will see you on the road to the recovery you want. It's a temporary set back which will...

Re: Torn Rotator Cuff (PASTA) possible Labrum (SLAP) from Butterfly Pullups

I've got the appointment for my MRI + dye for next week. I'm not looking forward to the injection deep into my shoulder, nor being fully immersed in an MRI machine for half an hour. "I must not...

Re: Torn Rotator Cuff (PASTA) possible Labrum (SLAP) from Butterfly Pullups

You are right Aushion, and this is not my first CrossFit injury. 3 years ago I got golfer's elbow and had to take 3 months off. That was a 6-12 month recovery too and even now 3 years on, I'm only...
