Re: Moody after heavy lifts

Wow, very cool info Steven. I did google it, and from the descriptions I think I have elevated norepinephrine levels. Low levels relate to depression, but elevated levels create a feeling of...

Re: What do you do when you see someone with terrible form?

I saw a guy (the fit guy in the group apparently) teaching his buds some workouts. One exercise was low-mid weight DLs for 10 reps (135lb iirc) and this guy would arch his back like a cat on each rep...

Moody after heavy lifts

When I really go heavy like the last 5x5 Back Squats, or similar - DLs for instance I find that an hour or two later, and lasting for 4 hours or so I am not only very tired, but terribly irritable....

Is our posture all wrong?

I recently heard a review of '8 Steps to a pain free back'. The video linked below (of the author giving a lecture) makes some references to how our back should be naturally from describing children,...

Re: First client, need waiver?

Sounds pretty unanimous! I'll call around for insurance, so much insurance these days.

Thanks everyone.

First client, need waiver?

I have a friend that I am coaching 3 days a week at a local school yard. He wants to get 'in shape' and I offered. I attended a L1 cert and do want to train people, and have inquired at my local...

Why are Sweet Potatoes good on the Zone?

I always saw Sweet Potatoes in the unfavorable category, but lately more and more people eat them post WOD. Robb Wolf mentioned in his blog about Sweet Potato mash, Apple sauce, cinnamon as eaten...

Re: Functionality of Walking with Weight Overhead?

I went to pick up my kids from school and wanted to bring their bikes (they are 8 and 6). After doing a Farmer's Walk for a bit, the constant pedals hitting the legs got boring. So I held them over...

Re: Vibram FiveFingers fit

My Sprints also have space at the back - no problems for me after over a year.

I just bought some Flows for the cool weather. True pain in the butt to put on. They do fit snugger than the Sprints...

Re: The real deal on Vibram Fivefingers...?

Johnny,

I recently read an article about how flip-flops are particularly bad for your feet. Something about using your toes to 'grip' the shoe on each step. This doesn't happen with VFFs as they are...

Re: Pain in instep of my foot...

For me I find that stretching my calves stops the arch seizures.

I was having a massage a while back, and I mentioned the tightness to the PT, and she takes my calve and jabs her thumb in the muscle...

Just how much is 1/4 cow?

Fortunately, I found a local grass-fed beef farmer, who sells by the 1/4, 1/2 or full cow.

Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea what I will be getting myself into with 1/4 cow. They said it is...

Re: Lower back problems - (Lordosis)

I had some pretty decent lordosis a while back, since reading around here and visiting my PT, I did lots of stretches around the hips including the Psoas. I also try to be conscious of my core...

Re: Max deadlift immediate effects on the body

I have always had dizziness / lightheadedness during Deads. But in a recent workout, it was to such proportions that I aborted the WOD. So far I think it is related to the very low carbs I had been...

Re: Avoiding Calluses

I have read the posts on glove use and always laugh when someone uses the 'my wife won't like my calluses when I give her a massage' excuse. I use a shaver that I bought for $10 and after a shower I...

Old joint injury rehab

I badly sprained my big toe a few years back. I was sore for a long time and received PT for a while. It doesn't cause me too many problems from day to day, or even Crossfitting, just occasionally if...

Re: Zone Diet, "well-marketed nutrition craze"?

I would have to say that telling people to try the Zone is the best advice. I think it helps in all the ways mentioned - quantity, quality etc. I hardly eat 'Zone' anymore but I wouldn't hesitate...

Re: Heavy lifts while on very low carbs.

Maybe I wasn't too clear. I feel really good with the low carbs, and my metcons' intensity was better than ever. Just now on the deadlifts did it cause me problems - at least I think it was the...

Heavy lifts while on very low carbs.

Lately I have been cutting back my carbs to see what I need to perform. Also, I have been doing my WOD before lunch where I used to do it afterwards. I have had a increase in my metcon performance,...

Re: Sodium in deli meat

I find the pre-cooked chickens serve me well. But my favorite is the German deli that I visit now - they make roast beef on premises and slice it thin. No salt -well, a little sprinkled on the...

Re: kids and carbs

I have made an concerted effort to reduce junk carbs in our house, along with my wife. They did eat pretty well before - there never was a lot of sweet drinks or candy around.

What we did (we found...

Re: Can you gain serious mass on Crossfit?

Mark - what is great about SS (the book) is the amazing instruction on the lifts. Squat, Deadlift, Press, Bench Press, Power Clean. The program is a small part of the book, in fact if you search...

Another vote for Mr. Pendlay. I was very happy with his service.

UPS on the other hand... how do they stay in business?

Few different threads weaving through this post, interesting! Here is my $0.02.

My experience since crossfitting and focussing on barefoot workouts / walking around is that my flat feet don't give...
