Re: My day with Rick Scarpulla of Ultimate Advantage (Westside 4 Athletes)

What do you guys do for lats? Rick emphasized that we're going to really want to exaggerate the extension and flexion of the lats, which results in having the elbows really far back when the lats...

Re: My day with Rick Scarpulla of Ultimate Advantage (Westside 4 Athletes)

I joined Ian and the rest of the folks at his gym for Rick's seminar this past weekend. I was on the fence about going up until the Friday before because I was wondering how much I would really get...

Re: 2013 Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Has anyone else been having issues with the Affiliate Management section?

I notice that when new people add themselves to the affiliate roster, they don't show up in Affiliate Management even though...

Re: Clean PR - 300lb

I've officially switched to high bar as of yesterday thanks to this thread. So thank you guys. My plan will be to do high bar once a week, clean heavy (with or without jerks) and/or front squat 1-2...

Re: Clean PR - 300lb

I just finished up a 5x5 weekly progression that had me squatting 3 times a week. I'm switching to 5/3/1 because I was getting to a point on the 5x5s where I was only progressing by 5lb every 2-3...

Re: Clean PR - 300lb

I am 26, and I'd like to think that means I can still get some improvements in with the time I have left.

I've been trying to get a good balance of powerlifting and weightlifting (CrossFit, y'know)....

Re: Clean PR - 300lb

Wow! That compliment really means a lot coming from you, Sean!! Thank you both.

I did not always clean and snatch like that, but I developed into that technique over the course of this past summer....

Clean PR - 300lb

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX_tBwocXSY (WFS)

Big 25lb PR for me. I hadn't gone above 245 in about 4 months with the exception of 255 a couple times and 265 once, so it was great to get this PR...

Re: Performance improvement - how good is good enough?

I used to wonder the exact same thing as you, but going for one more rep or doing 100 burpees each day didn't make logical sense to me -- it wasn't a concerted means of achieving my goal of improving...

Bench Press - Leg Drive Check

Hello, I've been working on developing my leg drive during my bench press, and I took this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=741eJEBPXGc) of me doing 3x240 this morning. I think I'm finally...

215 snatch check

Hit 215lb snatch yesterday at 185lb body weight, which ties my lifetime PR set at about 195lb body weight. I went for 225 a few times, but ended up failing:

Re: Quad Strain, Linear Progression, and Plyometrics

Not to say that I don't use a lot of quads during deadlifts, but I just wanted to test the waters to see what movements I could do. I ended up getting moderately high, going up from 65# in 20-30#...

Re: Quad Strain, Linear Progression, and Plyometrics

Yeah, I can definitely feel that it will take some time. I did 4 sets of 25 squats today and I definitely felt the strain when I was bouncing out of the bottom. I'm probably not even going to...

Quad Strain, Linear Progression, and Plyometrics

I pulled my quad squatting today on descent of the third set, fourth rep of 3x5x300#. I continued through and finished the set because it felt more like a muscle sliding over another muscle than a...

Re: Checking my Squat and Deadlift

I'm starting to see that linear progression means learning to identify true failures. I'll plan on doing exactly what you said, going with 335# and using mixed grip on the last warmup set and the...

Re: Checking my Squat and Deadlift

And, it officially became "heavy." I went for 5x330# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCU3zbk8WUQ) (WFS) yesterday, but only managed 4. The funny thing is, I felt my grip slipping during the fourth...

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Chris! You definitely had it right!

Here's today's lift of 5x320# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PNuvHUv9bs). This felt a lot better than the 5x315# that I did...
