Re: Too much $$$

Over the years, I have seen numerous people compare a CF gym to Martial Arts instruction. The big difference I see is that Martial Arts instructors usually spend years honing their craft. They may...

Re: 12mi ruckrun with 55# pack, boots

Make sure your feet are toughened up (boots broken in) and your mind is tough. The physical part is the easy part. You just have to fight through the suck.

Re: Beer Kegs as Plyo Boxes?

Why am I picturing a beer keg falling over very easy if jumped upon? Sounds like an excellent way to get hurt.

Re: Why is crossfit so expensive?

You're right. Different strokes for different folks.

I'm a very social person, but fitness is just a part of my life; it's not my whole life. I enjoy being fit as it allows me to do those things...

Re: Why is crossfit so expensive?

I never suggested that my form/ROM was hot stuff, but I've been able to do CF since 2003 without any injuries and I'm certain my form is as good as/better than most of the videos posted on this site....

Re: Why is crossfit so expensive?

My concern has always been the coaching, or really, how necessary is the coaching that is supposedly the reason for the expense? The fact is, if you have a decent fitness background, how much...

Re: Why is crossfit so expensive?

It's an individual thing. I pay $19.95 per month for my gym membership. When the weather is good, I workout in my garage. Either way, my ROI has been outstanding. Much of that ROI is due to what...

Re: When to do CF Endurance

Rucking sucked. I was pretty good at it, but it still sucked and I saw no reason to practice it. For me, it was 95% mental anyway. Almost anyone could do it, but few were willing to deal with the...

Re: What the CF games really teach us

I didn't say it was typical, just that the distance was not out of line with the WOD. If they sprung a marathon on the contestants, there would be something to complain about. It was the same route...

Re: What the CF games really teach us

I'd hate to think a run of 7.1 K (I can't even call that a long distance run) would keep a guy from displaying his fitness and performing his best. No knock on the contestant, but the distance is...

Re: Training for a 10K

Last summer I ran a 15K after not running any farther than 5 miles in over 20 years. I've been doing CF since 2003. I'm not a strict CF guy. I do CF, I do some of Ross's stuff, I make up some of...

How long till we see a Crossfit Football certification?

Edit: Never mind, I already see it.

Re: Sloping floor in garage

I just put a few pieces of wood under the lower side of the lifting platform (basically a shim). It's a very slight slope, so I'm not worried about any danger of lifting on the platform. My only...

Re: new loadable kettlebell (plastic!)

Shipping is $12. So, for $61 you get a shell of a KB. Not sure what 49 lb. of "shot" costs, but I would imagine the total cost would be pretty close to a real KB. God forbid you have to pay...

Re: Globo Gym tour, I'm a snob now

I use a globo gym when the weather is too cold for my garage gym to be set up. I have zero issues against the globo gym. I pay $19.95 a month and have everything I need. They don't have KB's, but...

$49 for an empty plastic shell? Pretty expensive.

Re: Military leaning away from CrossFit?

Read all of the posts the OP made (not just on this thread, but since he's been here). You see any ethical/integrity violations? Me neither. That's part of the drama that is CF.

Re: Military leaning away from CrossFit?

I was in the 1/75 Ranger Bn from 82-82. CWO "Doc" Donovan managed to get the Ranger Bn their own gym stocked with almost every Nautilus machine ever made. Some of those machines in that gym were...

Re: Long distance rucksack marches (how to train?)

I honestly think it requires mental strength as much as anything. I never saw a guy quit because he couldn't hack it physically, but I saw many guys quit because they couldn't take "it". Ruck...

Re: Balanced Gains vs. Genetics

Regardless of your results, there are many who have used SS or other strength-based programs to improve strength, which in turn has improved their met-con times after a few weeks back on CF. Many...
