Re: How to train for Lactate tolerance and increase Vo2Max?

A combination of interval training and distance. Swimming, cross-country skiing, biking, rowing, running are all good ways.

Recurring ab cramp when running

For the last couple of months, almost every time I run (less on the treadmill or at lower intensity), I've had to stop early because of a very distracting cramp/pain in the upper right side of my...

Re: My Goal within the next 2 years: Beat the olympic weightlifting world record

Maybe. If I hit these targets in a year that's fantastic. If I can't hit them in two, that's okay as long as I know I've worked as hard and as smart as I can.

A very achievable 170 KG total would...

Re: Wasted years?

I'm only 20, but I do regret wasting my high school years. There's time yet to become fit, of course, but it'll be a while before I can make a strong showing in regional competitions for the various...

Re: My Goal within the next 2 years: Beat the olympic weightlifting world record

I can power snatch 35 KG
I can do something like a power clean and then a push press with a lunge added for about 45 KG

Yes, I am a noob.

Effectively I can neither snatch nor clean and jerk with...

My Goal within the next 2 years: Beat the olympic weightlifting world record

Specifically, the women's 48 KG and under world record:
Snatch: 98 KG
Clean and Jerk 121 KG
Total: 217 KG

I am a man, and approximately 105 KG, just to be clear.

The advantage to this is that if...

Re: 500m Row Times

1:41 on damper 10 (which I always do). Just a week ago, more or less.

This puts my rowing almost a full level higher on the seattle 4-level fitness chart

$100 Dollar Home Gym

I have intermittent free access to a pretty decent gym (missing ropes, sandbags, boxes or other exotic equipment, weights and rower usually have a line, but overall pretty nice); For when I don't...

Re: Rower Favorites

I'm at a college with a fairly serious rowing team. Their training room has over a dozen Concept 2s in it.

Re: Row vs chin/pullup

To be clear, I mean bent-over barbell rows, not concept 2 rows.

Row vs chin/pullup

Does training the one enhance the other? How different are the muscles that are built up?

Re: I'm cutting fairly dramatically. How do I maximize strength gains?

I see the "don't have a deficit over 500 or else you'll go into starvation mode and lose strength instead of fat" thing all over, but then I also see "weight loss is 80% about calories in vs....

I'm cutting fairly dramatically. How do I maximize strength gains?

I'm running about a 1K calorie deficit (or trying to) With 2200 intake to around 3200 output (including exercise, though it may be more or less really - I have no idea how accurate calculators are)....

Re: Is there anything like SS for running or rowing?

Thanks for the feedback. CFE looks like it's a very good program.

The other running-specific ones look nice too.

Is there anything like SS for running or rowing?

I'm interested in improving my middle-distance running (by that I mean perhaps inaccurately 1k-5k range, as well as lower), and my rowing (esp. 500 m time).

SS is the goto program for beginning...

What non-crossfit athletics makes one most prepared for crossfit?

Or, to think of it another way, what sport would an athlete come from to be most successful at crossfit with just a few months training?

A couple obvious answers are gymnasts and (non-heavyweight)...

My back squat sucks

I can't post a video, but I'm trying to follow best practices (keep knees aligned with feet, feet at about shoulder width and slightly turned out, good natural back arch), and I'm finding that I...

Shadow boxing with dumbells - good or stupid?

Shadow boxing is a nice intense conditioner. Shadow boxing with dumbells is the same, except more intense and harder on the arms.

However, would it be too much for the joints, or generally invite...

Does a carb reduction need to result in Ketogenesis to be effective?

I know that a big point of carb-counting diets is to induce ketogenesis and change the way your body metabolizes fat.

Unfortunately, this requires an almost complete removal of carbs from the diet,...

Re: training push-up endurance

I tried this for a couple weeks actually. I found that it was wildly optimistic. I suppose there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it, but it'll be more like the "100 pushups in 12-20 weeks" program...

Getting back up to a past milestone is usually easier (unless you've gained a lot of weight, gotten a whole lot older or had some sort of injury/health problem) than getting to it the first...

Proper safety for practicing a headstand? (neck troubles)

I'm practicing headstands (that is, standing on a tripod of my head and two hands). Unfortunately, last time I did this I shifted too much weight onto my head, felt a slight pain in my neck, and...
