Re: Limited Window for Effective Use of Mark Ripptoe's Rehab Method? (link safe 4 wor

Kris and Steven -

I had same injury five days ago... sprinting, 'pop', tumble. Ice within first 5 minutes, then to the doc. GP said essentially, 'yep, you hurt it', ordered MRI and Rx Naprocin....

Re: Bench Press improvement

Bump!

Debated whether this should be testimonial or Fitness topic, but found this old thread and ran with it...

Today I decided to implement 'constantly varied' but NOT doing CF. ;) Needed a 'rest'...

Re: Games age categories

Quick definition check...

Fitness = work capacity of broad time and modal domains. (snapshot in time)
Health = fitness over time (age) - the 3D model Coach recently posted.

CF Games measures...

Re: Valhalla 2009

Colin - FWIW, unless they are elite/professional athletes already, I wouldn't let them do it. See the below from 'Start Here' and the many threads on Rhabdo... Your friends are courting...

Re: Air Squat is quad-centric?

Blair - Not sure of the reason, but I experience the same thing... two days after Cindy, quads are screaming, but PC is fine. After BS, quads are always fine and PC is screaming. I was pretty focused...

Re: Leaning out on Half Card - Extra fat

Try different things. Robb Wolf has his stuff pretty well wired so you probably can't go too far wrong with him. I've cut my carbs in half and gone 2x fat (was doing strict Zone) and have found that...

Re: Running sprints with no available field.

Long tape measure;
measure out ten yards of string and take it with you. Drop something at start and finish;
measure out 100 yds of string and tie a knot every 10 yds. mark you start and finish;
golf...

Re: Upper vs. Lower Body Strength

I'm like Jacob on this one. Better lower body than upper. Squat 300x5, DL 405, press 155. Former swimmer with broad shoulders and LONG arms. Good for DL, not so good for bench and press. Not sure...

Re: Lightweight Crossfit Games Qualifiers

So, I need to lose 7 pounds, stay the same height, and lose 10 years. Oh, yeah, and get a LOT better at the WODs:)

Tom - If you have more data, please feel free to add and repost. The graphing is...

Re: Heard in the Office Today

Heard at the Navy PT test today...

"The better shape I'm in, the faster I run"

Yep. I agree. His running suggested that he has yet to apply the principle.

Lightbulb Re: Lightweight Crossfit Games Qualifiers

All - Much debate about age and weight classes. Attached is a quick spreadsheet of the male qualifiers to date, from the CF Games Competitors list (the women haven't seemed to engage on the weight...

Re: Pre-event nutrition for specific event

All - thanks! bumped my carbs up to Zone Rx for breakfast this morning and PWO snack, instead of normal 1/2 Zone Rx.

Run went well - 9:40 with no run training. Push-ups and Sit-ups were...

Pre-event nutrition for specific event

Nutrition gurus -

Tomorrow I am running my Navy PT test (I know, not really challenging), but I want to do my best, especially on the 1.5 mile run. My question is how to approach nutrition tonight...

Re: The Zone Dieting: Does it Really Work?

Michael - I wouldn't worry about the BMR calculation. Based on 40% BF, you have about 155 lbs lean body mass, which isn't going to require 4200 cal to sustain. Your block corrections look to be...

Re: VO2 Max/HR

HR lags effort. The shorter the work intervals, the more significant this becomes when trying to calibrate effort by HR alone.

Re: Heard in the Office Today

Navy doesn't even go by a real BMI calculation. For example, Robert at 6'3 gets 215 as max weight. Sean at 5'7 gets 175.

For men, 5lb/inch from 5' to 5'8 (141-181) and also 5lb/inch from 5'8 to 6'6...

Re: Help with Zone

Matt - Doesn't look like a significantly different workload than CF. I'd start with .7. If you find that you're dropping weight too quickly (3+ lbs per week) after a few weeks, then adjust. Not sure...

Re: A better way of judging the true superior athlete?

Fergus - I wouldn't recommend using Schwartz outside of the time and modal domain for which it was designed - Powerlifting and determining 'best lifter' across weight classes at a competition.
