Re: Should I Switch to High-Bar Squats?

Try them both out. I switched, after a year of low bar squatting to excluvisely high bar squatting, and prefer the high bar. A few reasons:

1. I was working a ton just to maintain a stable rack...

Re: Back Squat Critique

This is why, considering that I squat to get stronger, not necessarily put up records, I make sure I'm clearly going quite a bit below parallel. It takes away the whole "did I make depth" questioning...

Re: Scapular retraction in pulling movements

Actually did some work with this today. When I was "retracting" after extending my thoracic spine I was actually elevating, as once I was fully extended there wasn't much left to retract. It seems...

Scapular retraction in pulling movements

Is it recommended, for general athletic training purposes, to consciously try to retract the scapula beyond what happens when you extend the thoracic spine fully?

For example, when setting up for a...

Re: squat - flexibility for weightlifting

Or, considering that he's 6'2, very long arms and a short torso, which would make him a great deadlifter and not so good at benching and squatting. I will agree that 290 and 420 for reps is pretty...

Re: Dave Tate

Wow, I forgot how much great info Pendlay lays out in that entire collection. Anyone with any interest in lifting NEEDS to read that entire thing.

Re: Dave Tate

I can only assume they'll say he's doing it for the publicity, and, more likely, the silly amounts of money he can earn from aligning himself with this current trend in fitness. Just a guess.

Re: VS Xplosions on sale--sizing?

I wear size 11 pumas comfortably, ordered my VS shoes in 10 and they fit perfectly.

Re: Shallow Power Racks

Most low cost racks tend to be shallow front to back.

Re: Squat form

I squat to full depth, even low bar, simply to avoid having to videotape myself on heavy attempts to ensure that I've reached depth. If I'm going all the way, I've obviously hit depth. Would I do...

Re: hip pain from squats (crease of hip)

I get this same thing when squatting. I'm currently working on trying to figure it out myself, as nothing so far has really seemed to help. If you hit on anything, please let me know and post it...

Re: Bumper plates and the deadlift

Ummm, invest in some iron? 45 lb plates are relatively cheap, especially if you can find them used from a highschool, closing gym, or ex lifter.

Though you can always squat low bar to full depth, as I do.

Re: To do Certification or not to do Certification?

I'll also add that I'm one of those with lots of time on my hands as well as a vested interest in training, as I am a trainer at a globo gym. I also attack things head on, and spent far too much time...

Re: To do Certification or not to do Certification?

$1000 dollars will buy you a good amount of equipment as well as some one on one coaching. Unless you plan on affiliating, there are much better ways to spend your money.

Sure, you'll be around some...

Re: One squat rack...

Unfortunately, even though I hate it myself, they pay their membership dues and have just as much right to the equipment as you do. That being said, most gyms also have rules about allowing others to...

Good work Charlie. I got your PM as well, but I figured I'd give you a bump and respond here.

I stopped doing SS seriously after I stopped the log, perhaps a few workouts after. I got to 240 lbs on...

Alexander, do you have any recommendations for a style of Yoga that would fit well for me? I enjoyed Bikrams, well, the poses at least; I personally found the heat to be a bit much, and sort of a...

Re: Pillars of Power Videos

If you have the choice and the space, go for a power rack. The pillars will hold up- no doubt about it- but a power rack has more options; rack pulls from varying heights, pull ups from the bar on...
