Re: Can normal veggies (non-organic, with pesticides) be eaten raw?

Agreed. I heard Bruce Ames speak a few years back on the very subject, he brought up the point that the available research at the time indicated that there was little quantity difference in many of...

Re: Something Good About Mickey-Dee's

Agreed. My dad was in the restaurant business; one thing he taught me is that you can tell the quality of a place by the way it smells. I have never walked into a McD's that did not have (for me)...

Re: Thoughts on Crossfit attitude / what makes CF valuable / etc

I don't think Greg would support that conclusion. It seems that you have a bit of a straw man there.

Honestly, it seems unproductive to try and condense the whole of CrossFit down to a quote or two.

Re: American's too fat for military service?

Not surprised. I would guess that the "75% unfit" figure is derived from those wishing/attempting to enlist and not the population in general. If it were the GP it would be much higher.

7-11

The same can be said for SlimJims and Diet Coke. So next time you just have to eat you have the option of hitting either McD's or 7-11. :D

Re: New CFer from the Bay Area, CA

Welcome aboard, Ali. There is an affiliate in San Jose (CF Silicon Valley) and several others if you don't mind taking a longer drive.

You can certainly do CrossFit on your own, depending on time,...

Re: What's worse?

I'd personally just binge and feel bad after. I find that to be more motivating.

And don't forget the hot caramel and whipped cream.

Re: Detox and Paleo

Food hangovers are the result of cheat meals. :D

I'd just eat paleo and drink a bunch of water.

Detox, unless prescribed for alcohol, seems to be a big scam.

Re: Garage Gym Squat/Dip Stands

Honestly, if you want commercial, go Sorinex. The Ironmind stuff is great, but the Sorinex gear is not much more $$ and even better in terms of construction.

Your original link/pic does not seem to...

Re: Sound guy for Grateful Dead eats NO carbs

Don't forget to include the sugar cube when doing your Zone block calculations. :)

Randy, that post is one of the first I read a while back that got me going on Paleo. It is a great read.

Re: Steve Gibson's follow-up on Vitamin D

I had the same effect when I took the regular flu vaccine . . . felt poor for a few days, but D seemed to help. As did the squats. Still waiting for my H1N1.

iHerb has the large bottles of D back...

Re: Oatmeal?

Which is why I have a love-hate relationship with this forum in particular.

Anyway, I'm as paleo as they come, and I do occasionally eat oatmeal-- either steel cut or Scottish style (if it's not...

Re: Too much protein?

I don't think it is. Just make sure you are getting enough fat in your diet.

I do not believe there are any studies out there that show any type of risk associated with elevated levels (compared to...

Re: Steve Gibson's follow-up on Vitamin D

Thanks for the update, Steven. I have been supplementing with around 10,000 IU per day for the past month, and have noticed the difference. I don't think I have ever felt/been this healthy during...

Re: Fat Gain on SS

Strength gains = fat gains. Hard to avoid, tho if you add 30 lbs of fat I'd guess you could cut back on the milk a little. :D

Try dropping the fat after your first or second cycle, and see where...

Re: Is Crossfit Mainpage dead?

In a word, yes.

Tho I would remove the word "legitimate", as what is "legit" seems to vary from individual to individual.

Re: Swiss Ball Squats

I'm missing the point here . . . what exactly is the point of swiss ball squats? Not trying to be a jerk, just curious.

Re: Lifting barefoot? Good or bad?

You need to read the book Born to Run. Those wearing little to no footwear are very competitive--esp. in the ultramarathon scene.

Back to the original question: Lifting shoes on the platform, shoes...
