Re: Used Olympic Bars for Fire Dept CrossFit gym

I'd talk to commercial gyms, schools and universities in the area, some of which will be on a planned replacement cycle. A gym I go to just got rid of a dozen great old olympic bars and replaced them...

Re: over head strength : which is best

Can you really press from your shoulders with a snatch grip? Pretty sure that would be anatomically impossible (or at least improbable) for me.

What are your current numbers like?

Re: Rowers

There are three main reasons that the Concept2 is the best rowing machine.

First is the unparalleled track record of the machines. A couple million meters is barely broken in. I regularly use C2...

Re: Fitting conditioning into the TM

I've found that the C2 rower used in moderation and sled-dragging complement barbell training without taxing my recovery too much. YMMV.

By C2 in moderation, I mean intervals at a pace 15 seconds...

Re: Wide 0-Lifting Shoes

I use the VS Atletics shoes and wear a 2e or 4e in most everyday shoes. VS fit my wide feet very well. They're currently running $77-80 bucks for a pair, but they frequently have sales, and I've seen...

Re: 4" or 5" for Weightlifting belts?

FWIW, if you might ever compete in powerlifting, the maximum allowable belt width for most federations is either 10cm or 4".

Re: Used C2 PM2 Monitor or PM3 Monitor

I had the same problem with a PM2. I took the monitor apart. About six screws on the back. then remove about eight screws that holds the electronic panel to the front.

Cleaned the areas that had...

Re: Rowing machine vs Rower

I just bought my fourth C2 rower, another model C. I've owned two previous Cs and a D and prefer the C.

The slightly lower sound of the D is hardly noticeable, and the C is built like a tank.

The...

There's no substitute for the C2.

Re: Was reading the Gillian article and had a thought...

There are established criteria for judging the Olympic lifts. Why not use those?

Re: Back squat too leaned over

How low can you get unweighted?

Your knees might be going too far forward but the funky cant of the camera makes it a bit difficult to tell.

I'm not sure I'd scream about the angle of the torso, as...

Re: Football Field WOD Ideas...Need Help!!!

I like to take a medicine ball out to the field. I like to make up games with the medicine ball.

Throws over the football goal's horizontal bar are roughly equivalent to a wall ball. Make it into...

Re: Squat ROM

If I were deciding whether to get Starting Strength or the GSLP book first, I'd definitely go with SS. They're the same price, but SS is printed. I promise that for as long as you lift seriously,...

Re: The Foundations of Personal Training

Not sure I believe that. I think that someone coaching an Olympic athlete is likely to make day-to-day decisions based on how the athlete is recovering and feeling. They might not make drastic...

Re: The Foundations of Personal Training

Sure they do. That's why I said I can understand planning the macro-cycles and peaking, but I don't believe that Usain Bolt's coach could tell you what workout or workouts he'll be doing on July 6,...

Re: The Foundations of Personal Training

Does anybody design programs 50+ weeks out? I can understand having the macrocycles and peaking planned out for a season, but 50 weeks?

Re: OHS Technique

I don't know what the author would say about it, but in my experience, using OHS and FS as part of my warmup for SS squat sessions didn't seem to hurt my progress.

Re: Level 1 Certification and Medical School

Unless you have the numbers on both MCAT and GPA, they won't even get to the point of reading the rest of your application.

Re: How competitive is a 14 min 5k and 350lb bench?

Best time in the 2008 Olympic trial in 5000 meter was 13:54 and change.

Re: How competitive is a 14 min 5k and 350lb bench?

Well-rounded, hell. If he's got a legitimate 14-minute 5k, he needs to go directly out to Loren Seagrave at Life University and get in an elite track program.

Get on the Wheaties box first, then...

Re: How competitive is a 14 min 5k and 350lb bench?

A true 14 min 5k is pretty astounding. You're about a minute and a half off the world record. You would have been pretty close to making the finals of the 2008 Olympics in 5000 meters if you were...

Re: Elite crossfit athlete development theory

I think there are two things at work here.

First is that people who are in some way physically gifted are better at sports or a particular sport, thus receiving more enjoyment and rewards from it,...
