Re: 20 rep squat program vs. SS

Squatting induces a massive neuroendocrine response, which will cause all stressed muscles in your body to grow.

Squat heavy, do pullups.

Re: Are all CrossFitters clean?

I'm not in the "OMG No! Drugs! Eeek" camp that some seem to be: frankly, it's your body, and it's your responsibility - do what you like to it, just don't involve me.

I don't care who's on the gear...

Re: Getting Kicked out of Globo-gym

Playing devil's advocate, if the floor is strong, why not?

Rubber bumpers haven't been around for that long: up until the late 60s they didn't even exist, and competitive weightlifting was...

Re: Scottish newbie....hey guys

Hi Richard,
You should get across to see Davie at Crossfit Central Scotland in Motherwell.
Have a wee workout with him, and that should put you on track for what CF is all about.
And it'll be fun -...

Re: Bodybuilding & Crossfitting

Hi Fergus,
Have you visited CrossFit Manchester in Stockport?
You should, it's highly recommended and will give you a sense of what CF is all about.

Re: Visiting an affiliate for the first time

Hi Chris,
If it's CF Manchester you're planning to visit, you might be best to post on their forum at www.crossfitmanchester.com - it's active and someone (probs either Karl or Mark) will be able to...

Re: Shoes worn by Chinese weightlifting team

Adidas lost the Olympic contract to Nike - hence Nike getting interested in specific kit for minority sports. They've been developing a fencing shoe too, which looks very cool.

A good night

Last night, I got a 34" box jump, and finally worked out how to kip properly. 8 unbroken sets of 5 kipping pullups followed!

And a PR 3-rep max on thrusters (52.5KG)

Re: Back pain: who to see?

I've got back issues stemming from a functional short leg and flat feet, plus some exercise induced injuries and imbalances.

Regular physios have never been any lasting help whatsoever, but a...

Re: Metal+Rubber Bumpers

The Apollo bumpers aren't very durable, the ones at CF Manchester are all split.
Make sure you have a platform or something to drop 'em on, not just concrete, or they'll die fast.

Re: Using Concept2 without the footstraps...why?!

Re: 2 Questions

You (used to be able to?) can get a CrossFit "Infidel" t-shirt from HQ: hence it's probably OK to ask on the board

Re: Does Hi-temp have a website?

Crossfit Manchester has multiple sets of 4kg wooden training discs, handmade out of 3/4" marine ply.
Very droppable, I haven't seen one broken yet, and very very cheap.

Another fencer here: this time to Scottish National Squad level, and ranked 42nd in the UK at highest.
Also played cricket at Scottish county level.

Re: Shoes-Running-Crossfit

You'll get a lot of recommendations for Nike Frees - they're pretty good.

Franklin - that's fine for back squats and front squats. The problem with OHS is that since you use the snatch grip, your fingers run the risk of getting squashed against the safety bars themselves.

Don't think of it as "one set".
You can break 'em up howeer you need - 10x10 or whatever. Just make sure you finish the pullups before you start the pushups.

"Like we're supposed to"

The object isn't to slavishly follow the WOD: the object is to get fitter. If you had the rings and you could do the jumping MUs, that might well be a better match for you...
