Re: Average/respectable 1km run time?

So you have a track background but can't catch a bus now, and your buddies don't and several clock a sub 5?

If they aren't competing at the crossfit national level they are in the wrong sport!

Re: Average/respectable 1km run time?

Respectability depends on the class you are competing in and compared to, that's all. I wouldn't compare your self to people who are born gifted, built a lot different, run a lot, are in their prime...

Re: Is there something as to much endurance work?

I agree with Robert above me here. If you were only training for running or biking for example, 6 days a week is not that uncommon, but the combination of the two is another story.

It's difficult to...

Re: inflammation and paleo

I have nothing against your not eating grains or believing that that helps you in some way physically. Certainly many people have sensitivities to certain grains (though generally not to all). But...

Re: Hydration supplements

I drip profusely too - but less since my fat layer went down.

Are you rehydrating during the workout? Maybe a litre an hour?

Possible you may need more sodium while working out too - "To achieve...

Re: Any tips for squatting and keeping back straighter/more vertical.

Thanks for the video Mark!

I never understood the push out the knees cue, but it makes sense how he explained the point is to move the pelvis forward to stretch the groin and get more...

Re: I'm in search of a coach for nutrition/diet/performance

Drew, you don't need a program specific to you. With due respect you are not that unique. No one is. Start tracking your intake and expenditure and read what's available on the calorie tracker sites....

Re: I'm in search of a coach for nutrition/diet/performance

I hate when people change the subject but ... what have you tried doing on your own? Fat loss isn't rocket science or even science really - just 4th grade math at best. At 25% you are no where near...

Re: Skinny fat looking to lean down

I used to be skinny-fat in school however gradually over time with more sports and training it improved. As well, I later found that I could run a modest deficit during most non-training hours, hence...

Re: Stubborn lower back

Also if your psoas is involved you'll find out with that. Trigger point self massage and stretching that muscle can help if it is.

Kind of obvious also but doing planks several times a week is good...

Re: Nutrition during injury recovery

It's a complicated subject and I can't claim to be qualified enough to have an authoritative opinion, however surgery will certainly increase your nutritional needs above the baseline.

For example,...

Re: FS: Woodway Curve treadmill in SoCal

Just like to add that it's an amazing machine. It's nothing like running on a power or even typical manual treadmill or outside. Because it's manual you determine the speed according to your pace and...

Re: Nutrition during injury recovery

I think it can be argued that your body will need more food rather than less, all other things being equal. It's going to more active than usual recovering, clearing out the muck and rebuilding...

Re: Training to Failure and other hypertrophy brain farts...

Yes chances are if you are hulking that you are a large percentage of fast twich. But quantity of fast fibers is also a factor in making up the thickness and has a strong bearing on fatigue...

Re: Formal vs. Informal training/coaching

There's certainly a lot of benefit of learning the basic movement patterns at a young or every young age - it will help them throughout life. But usually it's conveyed in a fun and playful manner.

Re: Should you run before or after strength training?

Yes, by worrying about it hurting your progress.

As long as it's enjoyable it should be a boon. But "know thyself" or in this case "feel thyself". There are always circumstantial exceptions.

Re: Should you run before or after strength training?

One half mile doesn't constitute exercise - endurance anyway. If you did 10 laps you might have a concern there...

I don't see any priorities.

Re: aerobic exercise, efficiency.

There are more mitochondria formed in the slow twitch and intermediate muscle fibers (cells). This allows more aerobic energy to be created. Also the prerequisite enzyme levels increase.

Somewhat...

Re: HELP! How to get bigger as ectomorph!!!

Congratulations!

That's actually excellent IMO. You've made slow but reasonable and steady progress towards your goal.

15 pounds is nothing to sneeze at, and putting it on slowly minimized fat...

Re: How to tailor my diet to drop a couple % of body fat?

Your diet looks like about 3.5K calories though without knowing the portions it could be more or less. I could see this promoting weight gain.

It looks like you are taking in 100g in protein...

Re: how much is too much?

Intermittent fasting is an extreme example, which I don't think really fits into the athletic lifestyle or is sustainable over the long-term.

I personally don't hold to the HGH hypothesis - HGH in...

Re: how much is too much?

The fact is that the body is burning fat for energy - oxidizing TG - and turning over body and muscle protein constantly - and much more than that all at the same time. It's the ultimate...
