Re: Form check-Back squats

Looks like you're coming forward to your toes and lifting your heals a bit too. Those shoes seem a bit squishy.

Work some hip and ankle mobility.

Re: Improving lower back flexibility

Dare,

Checkout Foundation Training (wfs: www.foundationTraining.com).

It's a great way to gain flexibility and increase overall strength. I've been doing it for 8 months now and have had fantastic...

Re: How healthful is this?

Oh, and I'm eating mine at 9:00 - 9:30, in bed at 10:00, and I workout in the morning.

I personally don't think it's a bad practice to eat carbs just before bed. In fact, I push most of my carb...

Re: How healthful is this?

I agree, what are your goals? How do you eat throughout the day before this?

I personally eat a very similar shake but I add peanut butter and blueberries rather than banana and strawberries. A good...

Re: Should I take a break from Crossfit?

I'm doing GSLP (I like the max reps on the last set; it gives you a lot more bang when you're stating out with lighter weight) with 2-3 short heavy metcons a week, as the others have suggested....

Re: Deadlift - Too Much Back?

Thanks all.

Since taking this video I've made the recommended changes. Butt down, getting back on and staying on my heals. I don't have any video formatted and ready for upload but I can see (and...

Re: Shoes

Oddly enough, the Nano 2.0 shoes are nice and wide. I've had problems with most shoes being too narrow but the 2.0s fit well.

I've heard the same from others, about the 3.0s being narrow, so I'm...

Re: cant do a pullup

Interesting, I've heard others say the same thing. For me, it's the last 1/4 at the top. With a bit knee movement (not a kip at all) I can get my nose over the bar. Dead-hang, only 3/4 (to my eyes)...

Re: Diet Question- Why is this working?

Todd,

I'm a morning WODer too. And I follow the protocol, evening carbing.

You may be thinking of the Carb Backloading, where you carb after an afternoon workout.

In Carb Backloading you do...

Re: Diet Question- Why is this working?

Sounds like you're unknowingly doing Carb Nite Solutions (wfs: http://www.carbnite.com/index.html). Which I have been doing and I'm having great results. I've tried most of the other 'diets' to lose...

Re: cant do a pullup

I've been struggling for a pull-up myself after not making any progress with bands.

I decided to try a program. It's from a body builder but hey, a pull-up is a pull-up. And I found it's best to...

Re: Hello

Sure. They're your goal, right

Check out Carl Paoli's GWOD (wfs: http://gymnasticswod.com/) plenty of progressions to get you there.

This could easily be something you work at after a warmup...

Re: Lower Back Pain?

So true, Brian.

I've got a 3, 5, and 8 year old. I seen the difference once they start school. I didn't know better for the oldest so I'm trying to correct him now while he's still young. I'm trying...

Re: Lower Back Pain?

So true.

I think that puts a spotlight on the real problem; many people (including myself) were never conscious of our poor movement patterns, which we have developed after years and years. We don't...

Re: Help in correcting squat butt wink

You bet it is a potential hazard (flexion at the bottom). It might not get you immediately but it could (through repetition) down the road if you don't correct it.

Like others have said, box squats,...

Re: Unathletic 9 year old

While Kate's advice is great, please don't let your son learn to kip before he can do a real dead hang pull-up. Many adults damage their shoulders kipping before they can do a dead hang. Kipping a...

Re: Lower Back Pain?

Frank,

I was having pretty much exactly the same issue. No pain, just an uncomfortable tightness. I too stumbled upon Foundation Training (wfs: http://foundationTraining.com ). I saw a Ted talk the...

From a formerly big guy (330+ down to 220? - who knows for sure, I don't weigh myself, but the pants are getting looser :pepper:).

I did, and suggest that you, scale the runs down. I could only keep...

Re: Deadlift form check

Try the top setup (ala Kelly Starett). Get organized and tight at the top, then bend to grab the bar keeping your spine neutral while bending over. He's got a few videos about this.

Re: Unathletic 9 year old

I think the most important thing with kids is keep them engaged by keeping things fun.

As was said above, agility ladders are great and will get him moving correctly.

I had my boys out on the...

Thanks Robert, Yes, I did notice on the decent. I'll be working on that with some accessory lifting.
