Re: Form Check - Kettlebell Jerk One Arm

Actually it looks really good. You have a good lockout and hand position, the rack looks pretty good too.

What you need to work on is the first bump. Make it a little more crisp, a little more...

Re: lower back soreness from kettlebell swings

Chris,

Some of us were initially taught to swing by always keeping the weight on the heels. This isn't wrong, but it doesn't help much when you go to learn the snatch which is why we do the "Fluid...

Re: lower back soreness from kettlebell swings

Chris,

I'm an AKC Coach.

I'm going to try to help you best I can online.

1. Keep a neutral flat back. Don't round and don't keep a super tight arch.

2. When the kb swings back let your weight...

Re: Snatches, KB vs DB?

One of the biggest complaints about the cheap KBs is the fact that they aren't properly balanced for snatching. They don't sit right on the wrists or the forearms and in fact can cause Injury. I've...

Re: St Louis Sand bag run; Saturday Oct 4 at 10am

Hi John,

Not really a Crossfitter :) But, if I didn't have to play football on Saturday, I would have liked to attend. It is suppose to be gorgeous weather wise.

Congratulations to you and Mark...

Re: Questions about AKC cert

FYI...

Not sure if you've been to a Cert or not.

Most newcomers don't focus on Long Cycle..or they shouldn't focus on it with 2 bells.. They do a one arm LCC&J, but that isn't near as taxing as...

Re: Questions about AKC cert

I will be an instructor there.

There is nothing you need to do to prepare. Just show up healthy. We don't want you to get the "basics" down : People have to "unlearn" something that they...

Re: Any girevoy sport folks here?

Not that you can't ask here, but you will get more help if you go to http://www.fullkontact.com/forum/ (WFS)

If you're struggling, you likely need to seek out a coach or someone to assess...

Re: Can you get strong with kettlebells?

That was some good sarcasm right there.

It depends. You can get strong from doing lots of different things with different implements like Melissa said.

Newbies will get stronger from doing just...

Doesn't make any of us feel minimized Zach. Seriously, thank you for the intelligent discussion.

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

We've got different goals Zach. I'm strong. I maintain good strength with something that has allowed me to lose 40+lbs over the last 2 years, while at the same time increasing my aerobic and...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

That's a good distinction Britt. I don't make my living promoting or selling KBs either. I do some side workshops and such, but it is very minimal and I usually don't charge much.

Good post.

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

Oh, and I don't claim a "strength increase" but some folks have experienced it. I just like that I can maintain decent strength levels. Because really, at near 37, why do I need to have super...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

Zach, I'm done here except to say this.

Isn't Crossfit based on Anecdotal evidence for the most part? If so, why do you argue with me about my results. I'm not a moron. I've been training in some...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

"Fine," you say. "It's still really hard because of the stability required."

Actually, that is one argument I don't make with the KB. The reps over time build the rock solid stability. It taxes...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

It's a strength/power endurance tool Zach. It is neither a replacement or an accurate comparison for the barbell versions of the lifts. Entirely different movements an entirely different...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

Thanks Alex and Leslie.

To me, saying KBs cause injuries is like saying CF Causes Rhabdo....

It's all in what you like to do. I've had very good fitness benefits from the bells. I'm still a "Fat"...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

There are a few problems as I see it.

1. Few people get the necessary instruction.

2. Most people try to find the CHEAPEST KBs they can buy. I will not snatch or clean and Jerk a cheap poorly...

Re: Rowing Technique - Makes a BIG difference

It's not.

I've played with a little thoracic/upper back rounding as opposed to the lower back. I'm shorter with shorter arms. So, I"ll reach a just a little.

The thing that made the biggest...

Re: Kettle bell swing / kipping pull up connection

Joey,

That's actually a great explanation imo. I'm a KB Lifter, haven't tried to learn to kip yet. I compete in Kettlebell Sport. I've always said that about the snatch, swing and KB Jerk in...
