Re: Trigger Point Therapy / body Back Buddy

My co-worker has a Theracane. Don't get me wrong, they are also great, but the Body Back Buddy is a big step up for two reasons:

1. All of those extra handles and weird looking balls actually allow...

Trigger Point Therapy / body Back Buddy

A few weeks ago, I purchased a new mobility toy called the Body Back Buddy.

I've had it for about 3 weeks. I spend...

Re: Back Squat - Help the Novice, Please!

Looking a bit better.

I want you to focus on keeping your whole body rigid during this movement. The reason steel poles can support a bunch of weight is because they are hard, firm, rigid, solid....

Re: Form check:Power snatch

There really isn't any way to make much progress on snatching until you are somewhere where you can miss and drop the bar. As the weight gets heavier, you'll miss and have to drop the bar.

Is there...

Re: Front Squat question

Upper and mid back mobility is also key. Keep that chest OUT and elbows UP.

Re: Shoulder pain during explosive lifts, but not strength lifts

My uneducated guess is that your lockout position is either incomplete or in the wrong position. It's putting undue stress on the joint.

Good lifting should never be painful on the...

Re: learning how to squat deep

No pictures right now. But, the idea is simple. Lay down on your back and place your feet against the wall, roughly shoulder width. Just like you're on a leg press machine or something. Then, slide...

Re: Slow decent on Squat Cleans?

For the record, I'm completely baffled about why a clean-then-front-squat would be useful for Olympic lifting, except for novices. As for CF, I guess it's just a good way to fatigue yourself during a...

Re: Slow decent on Squat Cleans?

Excellent point. I think the clean-then-squat is great for novices who need to affirm the motion and also spend time getting comfortable in the bottom position. Perhaps this is why CF programs this...

Re: Slow decent on Squat Cleans?

I think we're on the same page, here, because this is exactly my point.

:-)

Clean-then-front-squat is programmed in CF for specific reasons (of which I don't know). But, it's very different than...

Re: Slow decent on Squat Cleans?

Don't mix up correct technique for Olympic lifting with correct execution of CF workouts. The goal of the two sports is very different.

Re: Back Squat - Help the Novice, Please!

Awesome! I think you'll be surprised at how fast your squats are going to go up once you get the hang of it, and we get you on a good program.

You ought to take a video next time so we can check it...

Re: 145kg (319#) Snatch

Dude, this is some AMAZING lifting! How did you do at the meet?

Also - I agree that catching heavy weight, stabilizing, riding it down, and hanging out at the bottom with it is a great way to build...

Re: Snatch Fail - tips please

Wow, this looks pretty good.

I'll agree with the others in this thread. You need to bring the bar further into your hips at the top of the pull. It looks like you're utilizing your hips pretty...

Re: Back Squat - Help the Novice, Please!

Have you ever tried high-bar back squats or front squats? I know SS is all about low bar back squats, but it's probably worth a try to see which is most comfortable for you.

Re: Is it more important to avoid "butt wink" or squat deep?

I took a video of a PR attempt yesterday. I missed, but it I think it will be useful to see how I squat to full depth, with maximum weight, and still maintain control and stability. Notice how I...

Re: Help my snatch technique

I agree that your back could be in a better position. Some lifters find that it's useful to start with the hips low when the bar is on the floor. The hips can start as low as you want - but always...

Re: learning how to squat deep

I'm going to do some additional research, but I've heard many coaches say that Olympic lifting is fantastic for both sprinters and jumpers. The snatch and clean & jerk train the athlete to master the...

Re: learning how to squat deep

Are you interested in learning high-bar or low-bar back squats? What you're doing here is a low-bar squat, which isn't going to facilitate the same kind of depth that a high-bar squat can. Both...

Re: Is it more important to avoid "butt wink" or squat deep?

Yes, you have a *super* butt wink. It's not safe, but it's easy to fix.

You're overcompensating for sub-optimal positioning. I like the position of the bar on your back - nice and high. BUT, because...
