Re: Looking for a pair of 10lbs bumpers, recommendations?

Another vote for the Rogues. I have not been throwing them down or dropping them, and they are sorty floppy, but they are cheap, they weigh 10lbs, they get the bar up to the right height, and they're...

Re: York 7' Olympic Bar

I've got the York North American Needle Bearing bar, and so far it has been great. I think it's about the cheapest bar you can get with needle bearings, and it is certainly not going to come apart...

Re: Getting better on the rower

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but rather a suggestion: the title of your thread sounds like you are someone looking for tips on getting better with the C2. I would maybe re-post in...

Re: Ciggarettes and fitness

Out of curiosity, since you seem perfectly aware of the risks of smoking, do you have a plan here, as far as the smoke-a-day and cup of tea? i.e. is there a potential benefit to a little nicotine...

Re: Big Girl starting CFing

I have always found it much easier to watch my food intake (quality and quantity) when I am exercising often, be it CF-ing, lifting weights, or just running. I always feel like, once I get the ball...

Re: On Nausea . . .

I have always had problems with nausea when I really go for it during a workout. Especially if it has running in it - this always seems to get my throat a little gunked up and phlegm-y, which always...

Re: Looking for help /w cabbage soup.

If you want to avoid the bouillon (I assume for the sodium, although I guess the "why" isn't really important), you should start by sauteing your garlic and onions, and maybe some fresh mushrooms...

Re: Looking for help /w cabbage soup.

If you're trying to avoid the bouillon, you can start by sauteing your onion and garlic for a while in the pan, then add other veggies and saute for a while, and add water afterwards. I'm not 100%...

Re: good multivitamin?

I'd check Consumer Labs, or see if you can dig up other reviews of vitamin quality. They will tell you if you're actually getting the stated quantities, whether the things dissolve properly, whether...

Re: swine flue true statistics

I'm not sure "true" is a word I would readily apply to Dr. Mercola  : (WFS). I'd certainly take anything from his website with a large grain of...

Re: Craigslist

I found terms like "olympic" to be good for weeding out the 1"-diameter, sand-filled-plastic-weights type equipment. Still got plenty of cheapo junk, but it tightened up the search a little bit....

Re: How do you train the forearms?

What's this, Steven? I mean, I get that it's a bucket of rice. But what's the procedure with said rice bucket? D'you just open and close your hand in the bucket, or something else? Sounds...

Re: CrossFit and P90X.. the challenge.

Seems like both have a good amount of bodyweight exercises (does P90 have anything else?). I would have some kind of for-time or max-rounds in X amount of time challenge with pullups, pushups,...

Excellent Butter Recommendation

I found some ridiculously tasty butter at the store the other day. It's Organic Valley Pasture Butter - apparently it's a seasonal thing that's only out from May-September or so. It appears to be at...

Re: Starting Strength Power Rack

If you go to the ************.com website (the site is not WFS, especially not Rippetoe's stuff!), go to the forums, look for the coaching Q & A section, go to Rippetoe's Q & A forum, and search it...

Re: Where to put the marketing money for a CF Box?

I have some advice from someone who was successfully marketed to several years ago: is there an alternative weekly paper in your area? I first saw an ad for a local affiliate in one of those. They...

Re: Dip attachment for Squat Rack

I was thinking, if the places you are training at always have a couple of bars available, you could come up with something simple to just bridge two bars across the pins in the squat rack, at about...

Re: More Data and Follow-Up on Bumper Plates

Hey, that's a good idea, Ben. I'd be interested to see where those come in at.

I'll get the ball rolling, even: My York Int'l Needle-Bearing Oly bar weighs in, according to my el-cheapo bathroom...

Re: Power Rack vs Squat Stand and Pull up Bar

I'd second all of the above. I have been flattened out by too-heavy squats a few times, and being able to just lean over and park the bar on the pins is a great feeling. I have seen video of a guy...

Re: Bloodwork for CrossFit / Elite -v- Normal?

I'm sure the CF forum cops are gonna git you for flaming or something, but I think your post, or at least, the OP's post you quoted in your post, leads to a great idea: elite blood transfusions!...

Re: cleans hitting collar bone

This sounds like a good strategy. I've got cleans coming up tonight, so I'll give it a try.

As a side note, I have found scapular contraction to be key in a number of exercises. If I don't focus...

Re: recommendation for workout pants

I have a pair of Arc'Teryx pants that I bought several years ago; I believe they are the Traverse pants. They're a super light softshell material, probably about as heavy as t-shirt fabric, but a...

Re: Fish Oil & Soft Stool

This reminds me of Rippetoe's admonishment that, should a trainee attempt to do 2xGOMAD, they would be "sh***ing primarily cheese." Factoring in the sardine component really makes this a...

Re: Fish Oil

And that's great - if it is working for you, and your doctor is on board, it's obviously a good way to go. As you wisely point out, however, this is an anecdote; your personal experience. This kind...
