Re: Books on The Mental Aspect of Sport

Heck, on that thread, "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu is a great read for mental mindset as well (the chapter on spies probably won't help much, but the parts on knowing yourself and your enemy and the...

Re: What do you think is your one weakest link?

Grip. It limits everything. It gives out before anything else on deadlifts, pull-ups, rows, etc.

I've been focusing on more grip work and bought some Grip4orce fat bar gripper thingies to use on...

Re: Crosstraining/Additional Sports

I like to do Yoga.

Since I teach at a college, and I can take classes for free, I try to take a class every semester or two in a different sport or movement modality. So far I've done golf, tai...

Re: Five Fingers must be overstocked or in trouble

That's what I'm wondering. I'm hoping it's just overstocked, but I worry the dumb publicity over the lawsuit hurt them and they're in serious trouble.

I really hope not - these shoes cleared up...

Five Fingers must be overstocked or in trouble

During their labor day sale I managed to get a pair of black size 46 mens KSOs for an insanely cheap price.

Now, they just sent me an e-mail stating they are sending me another pair for free as a...

I got "Inside the Box" and "Learning to Breathe Fire."

I have hard copies and pdfs of the 5/3/1 books. Great strength programming there.

Re: Good fitness books on Kindle?

Thanks!

I'm finding I like fiction on the kindle, but not the exercise/fitness books so much. The screen isn't really big enough for a lot of the diagrams, and it's harder to mark two or three...

Good fitness books on Kindle?

I just got several Dan John books on Kindle, and I noticed most of Pavel's books are available. I also got "The Sports Gene" - which looks interesting.

I notice there are a ton of "CrossFit" kindle...

Re: Water, how much is too much?

Too much = drowning in a lake.:)

I used to drink a gallon a day - when I lived in Alaska. I moved to Arizona, and now I drink 2 gallons a day during the summer. During the winter I move back to...

Re: So who is "literally stealing money from Crossfitters" according to Juggernaut?

I found the article on Google cache (just search "travis mash rippetoe" and it came up).

It's terrible. Really, really bad. I don't think he's actually read Starting Strength, or (at least) any of...

Re: So who is "literally stealing money from Crossfitters" according to Juggernaut?

It's been over a month, and that's the only article the guy has published at that site. I wonder what's up.

Re: So who is "literally stealing money from Crossfitters" according to Juggernaut?

I teach writing, and the misuse of "literally" bugged me - but I wasn't trying to grade the article as if it were written for one of my classes (but if I had been it would have gotten a C+ or B- due...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Well, I can do 405 for reps, but I recognize that's way above what most people in the gym can do. It's not amazingly impressive, but it's semi-impressive in a "that requires some decent strength,...

Re: Low bar vs. High Bar, once again

Since we've drifted to warm-ups -

I do

45 (the bar) 12 reps
135 8 reps
(then the rest depends on my work weight):
40% 6 reps
50% 5 reps
60% 4 reps

Re: Low bar vs. High Bar, once again

Well, I do deadlifts and good mornings, the occasional RDL or SLDL, and related exercises as well. I don't see it as an either/or here.

Re: Low bar vs. High Bar, once again

Interesting, given you know nothing about my particular body structure or training history.

Three points:

1. I high bar squatted for a long time, thinking it was the only "real" way to do it. I...
