Re: Crossfit's definition of health

crossfit in Thailand? Thats interesting. Yeah, I think the injury topic really needs to be addressed and not because I think crossfit has more injuries than say, basket weaving. I brought it up...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

Of the 525 injuries and complaints reported during 60,629 hours of activity, 475 occurred as a result of sports participation for an overall rate of 7.83 per 1000 hours of participation. Seventy-six...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

It wasn't too hard. I did a google and found the info below. The next step would be to find the average length of down time due to the injury. I'm thinking crossfit will be on the list someday. ...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

You make good points... and quality of life is important. I'd much rather do a crossfit wod than speed walk, but quality of life is irrelevant in crossfit's narrow definition of health. On the other...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

I agree people who are healthy are not necessarily fit. But then, how does that jive with Crossfit's definition of health?
All I am wondering is that if u take injury into account, is crossfit...

Re: CrossFit's definition of health

You can't get sued for having data. But, someone can subpoena the data if they think it will help their case (to sue crossfit). Maybe a reason they don't collect it? I don't know.

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

It is impossible to track anything with 100% accuracy. Maybe you can only account for "reported injuries" or "injuries at a crossfit gym"... what ever. You could also track it by doctor visits....

Re: CrossFit's definition of health

They talked about them in my level one too. I also asked

-do you keep track of the most common injury in crossfit?
-do you keep track of the numbers of injuries?

The answer was no in both...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

Agreed. There is no data. Crossfit is what? 20 years old?

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

But doesn't crossfit need to provide some (any) injury data to compete the statement "Crossfit is better for your health than x" x could be running, walking, what ever. Again, since injury (or...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

I purposely did NOT comment on the differing definitions of health. Also, since Mr. Glassman speaks for Crossfit, what he says is sortof the default Crossfit view. I was wondering if anyone else saw...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

I agree. I was just wondering tho, is crossfit a poor choice given Mr. Glassman's definition? A crossfitter does so much more work than say, a walker... but if he gets hurt more often and misses...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

I totally agree. But, I was just using Mr. Glassman's definition which excludes all of this stuff (just focusing on fitness/work capacity)

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

YEah! So right. Your thinking exactly how I am. There are tons of variables, I guess my only concern is that there is NO tally of injuries what so ever. Sure, there are some people walking around...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

The problem is, nothing any of us have experienced/observed good or bad is really relevant in answering this question. We need data (injuries per 100 participates, days per year lost to injuries,...

Re: Crossfit's definition of health

The reason I bring it up is that Crossfit doesn't publish or even track (I asked this during my level 1 cert) any injury data. If Mr. Glassman is using the above definition of health, crossfit may...

Crossfit's definition of health

I was thinking about something.

Crossfit's definition of health is the ability to sustain fitness. Mr. Glassman claims that any "disease, illness, or injury will manifest itself as reduced work...

Re: Did you herniate a disc? Learn from me.

Ok. But doing something unconsciously might not be the best for your body right? Maybe there are 2 right answers: if you're in the olympics and need to make 1 lift of x weight for that gold medal...

Re: Did you herniate a disc? Learn from me.

My background is in Chinese & Finance and not human movement. Everyone could be right (or wrong). Are there any studies/research papers to back this stuff up?

Re: Did you herniate a disc? Learn from me.

I'm pretty sure you are wrong. Holding your breath creates hypertension and how is that good? Also, internal pressure from holding your breath is not the same as external pressure from a weight belt...

Re: Did you herniate a disc? Learn from me.

Hey Andrew:

Prevention is key... although, sometimes discs just go. Many non-athletes herniate discs doing things as mundane as picking up a basket of laundry or twisting the wrong way. Some...

Did you herniate a disc? Learn from me.

I herniated my l4l5 back at crossfit in December and am happy to say the 5 month ordeal is finally over. Unlike most people with herniated discs, mine didn't get better on its own and I finally had...
