Re: causes/cures for "charley horse" cramps

hmmmmm, might be worth a try, never thought about that. Even if it doesn't work, my wife just bought a bottle gin, so....

Re: causes/cures for "charley horse" cramps

I will often have a banana and/or orange in the morning before a ride, maybe during the ride also. I believe both are good for potassium, but maybe not enough...?

I think I remember that salt...

Re: causes/cures for "charley horse" cramps

Yes, there have been times I used watered-down gatorade. I can't remember now if I ever got a charley horse while using it. BUT, I used it less and less when I found out that it really doesn't have...

causes/cures for "charley horse" cramps

I have gotten several debilitating charley horse cramps/spasms over the last year or so while mountain biking. The pain is on the inside/front of my thighs very close to my knee caps. It has...

Re: No Room for a Rack? Not anymore!

Shawn, no need to justify yourself. For every one complainer, there are dozens of us who know exactly what you are going through. We are married, we have houses, kids, jobs, responsibilities.... ...

Re: No Room for a Rack? Not anymore!

Robert, I am pretty sure that anyone in the market for squat stands or a squat rack knows whether or not this is appropriate for his/her needs. No need to be coming off with the tone you are...

for those of us with cheap barbells...

I picked up a used bar about a year ago. It had a little bit of surface rust, but it was a legit bar with knurling that I like for $50. The ends spun, but there was some resistance and it had a bit...

Re: Strength + CrossFit Plan

For the last 2.5months I have been going 2 on, 1 off, mainly like this:
Wod/metcon
Squat, bench, pull-ups/weighted pull-ups
Rest
Wod/metcon
Squat, press, DL
Rest

It has been treating me well. I...

Re: Assistance bands for my little sister

This has all been quite entertaining, as well as Hamze's other posts. It is like something horrifying that you shouldn't look at, but you do anyway out of morbid curiosity.

Personally, I just like...

Re: Advice for out of shape beginner

You are much better off doing several wods per week, appropriately scaled (by manipulating weight, rounds, reps, whatever) rather than destroying yourself once and needing several days to recover. ...

Re: Assistance bands for my little sister

This is at least the second time you have posted this quote from this article. You may treat it like gospel if you wish, but that does not make it the absolute truth in speed training.

A GOOD...

Re: Functional Movements?

I don't use the adjective "functional" as a light switch. It is not on/off or yes/no.

To be functional is to be on a spectrum.

Leg press is functional, squat is MORE functional, for instance...

Re: Getting killed on the mountain. I have no endurance

Yes, mountain bike. And I'm not taking about riding on dirt roads. Get out and ride the hills, rocky, rooty, nasty climbs. Beat yourself up a little.

Paddling is also another nice summertime...

Re: Wooden power rack?

I am quite partial to my rack.... I had a post last year about it, but apparently the archives don't go back that far. I had listed some of my specs along with some changes I would make if I did it...

Re: Crossfit at home- how to be effective

Agree with what other have said, especially on versatile equipment choices.

Will add that creativity can go a very long way when you have limited equipment. Just changing your set/rep schemes can...

Re: Definition of "Unbroken"

I would consider it an unbroken set until my feet hit the floor. Then again, if they were "resting" for a long time, it is kinda silly maybe, especially since it was an AMRAP anyway.

Personally,...

Re: Jump rope length for double unders

I learned DUs with my cheap, old leather/rawhide style rope-an old walmart purchase from way back I believe.

I just got a speed rope for Christmas and it makes DUs easier. It is also a cheapie,...

Re: Jump rope length for double unders

Depends on you proportions and personal preference to a degree...

Stand on the middle of the rope and pull both handles towards your shoulders.

End of handles at tops of shoulders is a safe place...

Re: Tabatas - one movement only or mash-up?

Depends, on something like air squats, sit-ups, light swings, I can put in a full 20 second effort each round.

I have found the upper body work like push-ups and pull-ups don't let me work the full...

Re: Crossfit or HiT? Why not both.

BTW, as I remember it, HIT was a protocol where you would only perform one working set per muscle group to failure, never multiple sets (except for adequate warm-up).

The idea was that each body...
