Re: Gymnastic didn't expect this..

He means 20 seconds in the proper gymnastic support position, which is where your palms are open, facing forward (around 45 degrees?)

It's a lot tougher than the basic neutral position at the top...

Re: Forklifts, a surprisingly useful piece of equipment

Needs at least one of the following:

1) A female with a serious 6-pack
2) A topless female
3) A baby
4) A handstand

Preferably all four of those, plus a forklift.

Re: Squatting while Defecating?

With bad squat form, this is precisely the result.

Re: Home made paralettes unstable

Definitely use the brushed-on PVC cement. If not, all of the individual pieces rotate slightly amongst one another and create a big, unstable mess.

Re: Benchpress 101

I think I'm spotting some imbalances there, but not sure. I need to forward this to Mr. Starrett...

Re: another pullup question= Kip to dead pull or dead to kip

Kipping is a very natural progression to a pullup--I don't mean the rhythmic, highly-extended kip we use for high-rep pullups, but just a simple lower body kick to get the movement started. Put a kid...

Re: Kipping Help

"My strict pullups, in my pre-CF days, were fairly good"

Try a "Strict Fran" -- when I was more adept at strict pullups and could do at least the first set unbroken, I was just as quick as when I...

Re: Weighted pullups record

Awesome job, Steven! I was following your other thread at or wherever it was earlier this year.

I've always been a pullup fan, but doubly so since I saw your record attempts. I'm still...

Re: Handstands without natural athleticism?

33 years old, just got my first one against the wall a couple days ago. I had worked on frogstands and planche progressions as part of my warmups for several months. Those seems to get me mentally...

Re: Crossfit in Ski Magazine

The arguments always go on ad infinitum. Someone talks up Crossfit after drinking a few too many sips of Koolaid. Then a vocal, professional critic shoots a bunch of holes in it because s/he used one...

Re: Kipping weighted pullups

Interestingly, Annie's got the plate pushed back and tucked firmly behind her butt, sort of locked into place. That makes the mechanics work a little better, but it's not a technique I PERSONALLY...

Re: Too much $$$

And if you want to do it on a larger scale, how about a co-op gym? Probably taboo to mention this on the CF website, but I see nothing wrong with 10-20 people pooling some cash for shared equity...

Re: The more you eat, the sooner you die.

All I have to say about vegetarianism is this:

They're the ones shaping soybeans to look like burgers. You don't see us shaping burgers to look like lettuce.

Re: "going dark"/dizzy after heavier deadlifts? Doing something wrong?

I get partial blackouts with 1RM and sometimes up to 5RM, depending on how hard I'm working. No amount of breathing or grunting seems to change it. I'd love to hear a physiological description, since...

Re: Reebok Reelflex on Sale for $39.98 + $8 S&H (Or no S&H if you pickup)

Pretty common with brand names on websites (happens on Amazon all the time)...just makes shopping a little bit harder.

Re: Reebok Reelflex on Sale for $39.98 + $8 S&H (Or no S&H if you pickup)

Wow, less than half price...hmmm, maybe I CAN overlook the weird "classic" styling.

FWIW, the more modern mesh-styled shoes are also on sale for $70. I'm still tooling around the site to figure it...

Re: Kipping weighted pullups

I always thought the whole point of a weighted pullup in CF was to force strict form (deadhang) and to prevent kipping. It never occurred to me to attempt a kip with weight because I always had...

Re: Too much $$$

While I personally agree with OP that it is an expensive proposition, I can't say it's "too expensive" for what many people need--and receive.

I look around me every day at people who spend...

Re: Food / Nutrition Movies?

Anyone seen "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead?" Netflix has it on streaming and the story sounds interesting, even if a juicing-only diet is a little too esoteric for the average person. I've got it in my...

Re: Risk vs Reward

Good assessment for their particular perspective. I enjoy CFFB and use their workouts more often than the mainsite. However, I also do gymnastic skills work as part of my warmup, plus lots of burpees...

Re: Grip Fatigue on Rowing Machine

Agree you're probably overgripping. I feel some hand/forearm fatigue when doing a 5k, but for sprintervals my legs start to burn out first.

A fellow xfitter who had just started (with little...

Re: To New Beginnings!

Excellent and good luck! I think you'll find the "pleasant season" is just beginning here in the Deep South. It's 8 months of relative bliss with 4 months of unberable humidity, depending on your...

Re: Do you have fvckarounditis?

His "guidelines" are all bodyweight driven, which are the same criteria applied to weight classes in combat sports and weightlifting. Fair enough. But I'll submit to you that for a pair of 200#...

Re: What? Shoes don't tone you?

If you're starting from a point of being unfit, then using shoes with crappy leverage in an attempt to do partial-ROM calf raises and increase isometric stretching (when standing) would be better...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

A bunch of us enjoy paying $50+ for the privilege of watching young men earn $20+ million per year from a vantage point 100'-1,000' away. Multiply this times 50,000 people and expand it to many...
