Re: Any initial reviews on the new Rogue R-3 power rack?

Bill, I really like the looks of the rack in the pictures. If the fit and finish is anything like the B&R bar I got from you guys last year this should be a great rack.

What I like over the others...

Re: Best Place to Get Kettlebells

Yeah, it's more comfortable.

I also find that I can deliver more power with a kettle bell at both the top of the swing (stopping the bell for a faster cycle rate) and the bottom (starting the...

Re: Why buy an expensive olympic bar?

I used a cheap CAP barbell for a very long time. It definitely took a set (read: bent), but it wasn't really that bad.

Now that I'm using a B&R bar I don't think I could ever go back, but I don't...

Re: Best Place to Get Kettlebells

I like dragon door/Pavel (prettiest and smoothest), but they are a bit pricey

Rogue Fitness has some decent ones that are a little less costly.

I've ordered from both and like both. if you have...

Re: D-Ball v. Dynamax

One word reason - Wallball

Ball meet face...
Face meet ball...

it happens, but with a 20 lb dynamax it's not quite as jarring.

As other have said you can't slam it, but that's it's only...

Re: Hanging a pull-up bar from trees

Get thee to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a piece of 1" black pipe. It's gonna flex a bit over that span (not to mention the trees will give a bit, too).

2 1/2"! :yikes:

Re: climbing rope

Yup, I ordered 20' of 1-1/2" Manila on ebay on Friday. Should be here on Thursday. Total wtih shipping came out so something like $38.

You have to do a little work on it like whipping the ends...

Re: Plyo Boxes - new design

Really good idea guys.

I personally prefer angled (10 degree or so) boxes so that a missed attempt isn't quite as painful, but it's really not that big of a deal.

I am going to build a 4" version...

Re: Crossfit & Inflammation & Sears

Take fish oil.

Work out hard.

Ice when needed.

Rest when needed.

Don't worry, it's all good.

Re: Guards for hands during pull ups?

I've started making grips out of sports tape.

Google "crossfit hand wrap tape" (nevermind it's down right now, but Crossfit Virtuoisty used to have a tutorial on making handwraps out of sports...

Re: tabata

Also, be sure and download some music with tones added for timing. Makes it so much more pleasant. Google "tabata music" or something like that.

I wasn't around for "Tabata This," but I really...

Re: Structured Skill Development

I don't know, POSE running is really taking a long time for me to get down pat. I think breaking old habits might be harder than learning a completely new skill.

But then again, I've been wrong...

Re: CF Football for Firefighters?

I agree. There was no part of the firefighter test that I partook in that required any super-human strength. It was just like a long grueling met-con workout (sledge hammer to move a R/R tie,...

Re: Mixing CFSB and bjj/mma?

Oliver, I think I agree with just about everything you state there.

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my post. I wasn't advocating omitting strength training, I was merely putting forth the idea that a...

Re: Specs for a pull-up bar

Look at what Rogue Fitness does on there fabricated pull up bars. It looks very similar to your plans, but you might get some insight on the materials and cross bracing.

The 1" schd. 40 is what I...

Re: Weighted box jumps and ACL strain

Jump up - step down.

So long as you don't go all wonky and fall off you should be golden. Start low, and work your way up.

Landing on top of a box jump is generally a very gentle affair. Jump up,...

Re: Video: Mike Boyle teaches an awkward hang snatch

Oh my.

Was it just me, or was the second athlete using his hips (as in physically wtih the hips hitting the bar) to sling the weight up and around. The arch in his back was plain scary.

But then...

Re: Mixing CFSB and bjj/mma?

I started crossfitting about four months ago right after i started training MMA (we do alot of rolling). Far and away, the most important thing that crossfit has helped me with is the metcon stuff....

I haven't read Robb's take on this, but my strength and endurance is definitely higher the day following my cheat day.

Granted, my cheat meals aren't really all that bad. I might add some sweets...

I'm not interested in dropping weights either. It brings me no joy whatsoever.

I have however dumped weight from overhead a few times over the past month on what is a reletively light weight on a...

Re: Warmup, when, what, how?

Bear in mind that a warm-up should be that... a warm-up.

If your max pullup is 8 and you are doing 3 x 10 pullups for your warm-up, you have moved from preparing your body for work into doing actual...

Re: Ring/Bar station: ideal dimensions?

I just finished my setup outside.

I used a 12' x 6" x 6" post on one side and a 12' x 4" x 6" post on the other side (I already had this on hand so it was essentially "free").

The 4" x 6" post...

Re: Crossfit Stretching

The pervasive logic that since strecthing has been proven to limit your max effort by some marginal degree that one shouldn't stretch before an activity is kind of silly, in my opinion.

I was at a...

Re: Squat hip drive and form check (low bar position)

I can't really tell from this angle, but the position of your arms makes it look as if the bar may be sitting too high up on your back/shoulders.

Of you could just be built differently, and that is...
