Re: New 60 lb MiR Short Weight Vest For Sale - $160 shipped

That's a good (and somewhat comical) point, but since I've determined I'll probably never use this much weight, I'm going to get the smaller version. That being the case, this one would function...

New 60 lb MiR Short Weight Vest For Sale - $160 shipped

I'm selling the 60 lb Short MiR vest that I just bought. I wore it twice (just around the house) and decided it's heavier than I need, so I'm selling it before I really use it.

Anyway, I'm selling...

Re: Has anyone tried doing Crossfit with Jumpsoles?

Use them for plyo and sprints, but avoid using them for the other parts of the workout. They won't help for wallball, etc, and will actually potentially cause problems.

Re: Is this normal? Running vs rowing

Those are from college. He pretty much looked like that coming out of high school though. And I can attest to him being legit -- he didn't even eat well, let alone take steroids.

Re: Is this normal? Running vs rowing

Vernon is built very much like an old teammate of mine: Greg Jones (though I'm not sure Greg doesn't actually have him beat). When Greg went pro, he was over 250 and 3.7% body fat. He also ran...

Re: Is this normal? Running vs rowing

Not true at all -- try running without moving your arms. Even when running distance, the arms have some impact on running. With sprinting, the amount the arms are involved is magnified substantially....

Re: Alternate approach to broad fitness

I tend to agree with you on this (as can be seen from my above posts). I suppose the one question that would need to be answered is whether all the work towards dropping those ten seconds from one's...

Re: Fran Best Time Ever?

There are a couple other differences when you account for differences in leverage and center of gravity (taller people have a higher center of gravity making some exercises harder).

When it comes...

Re: Is this normal? Running vs rowing

It's pretty simple, really. It's the same reason Lance Armstrong didn't go out and win the NY Marathon. See #3 in Cosgrove's article here:

Re: No Weight room this summer for our conditioning program

I'll say as a guy who played high school ball, if I had been trained as a generalist, I wouldn't have made it to the elite level I did. If these kids are training for long-term fitness, sure, you're...

Re: No Weight room this summer for our conditioning program

Okay, let me repeat the actual data listed earlier, because it appears you missed it. The average football play lasts around 4 seconds (not 5-10 seconds) and the average rest between plays is around...

Re: No Weight room this summer for our conditioning program

Pullups, presses, etc. should be a part of any football training program. The difference is that at ANY level, someone training for football should be focusing on explosiveness rather than...

Re: No Weight room this summer for our conditioning program

You won't want to have your football guys do a whole lot of metcons (maximum one per week), because they don't relate as well to the functional needs of playing football (work capacity training and...

Re: ace fitness article. Is this complete nonsense?

Beat me to it...

Anyway, the other immediate problem in the article is that it's assuming the client wants to LOSE WEIGHT rather than GET FIT. The suggestion that the client may gain some water...

Re: Bench Press competition

Before you bench, do a couple short sets of an exercise that stimulates your shoulder girdle (heavy rows, etc). You can add a few pounds by activating the antagonistic muscles and warming up the...

Re: Why do you train?

Because I want to continue to improve my golf swing.

Because I was once a very good athlete and, after looking in the mirror about a year ago, I decided I couldn't let myself slip so quickly.

Re: Speed for Kids

I'll echo what Steven said. For real speed, the CF kids' workouts aren't really the way to go. More attention to short, explosive interval training is the only way to go. Once you're comfortable with...

Re: Who/What Defines Fitness?

Exactly right on this -- several of my OL boys who went on to the NFL and are now retired (and several who didn't make it) IMMEDIATELY cut weight as soon as they finished. One is down to like 240,...

Re: Who/What Defines Fitness?

No. After being around enough elite athletes with BF% in the high teens and low twenties, there's no way I could say that. We had an OL who was about 16% BF, had a 33 inch vertical (we had to test...

Re: The "Bradstock" Jump Squat: Is it an effective exercise?

No way I'd do that exercise. As other posters have said, the force on the back and knees is amplified too much.

I'd do power (jump) shrugs way before this. My vertical went up quite a bit when we...

Re: girlfriend help

The other thing is that most guys I know think the way I do: that a girl with some muscle is hot. (Female bodybuilders? Not so much. A very fit woman with some muscle? Hot.) I don't understand why so...

Re: Let's revamp the CF Warmup

The Samson stretch doesn't have to be completely static, for one (I do a dynamic version of it that goes along with high-kick walking lunges as a part of my warmup). Secondly, the reason that...

Re: Alternate approach to broad fitness

Sorry -- I went back and re-read your post and I had misread it before. I completely agree with your assessment -- the first will be more "fit" despite not having quite as good of test numbers.

Re: Alternate approach to broad fitness

It seems to me that you're equating performance on certain lifts/tests and fitness. I'm not sure they're the same thing -- fitness can be measured with reference to various tests, but just because a...
