Re: Pressing Help

Really good stuff - I appreciate it.

I checked out that thread Brian, and I think it will greatly change things. After what I read, I'm sure that my chest is too loose. I might be going way too...

Re: Pressing Help

Diet is getting dialed in....I get about 2,700 to 3K calories per day (181 BW, 5'10"), with about 250 grams of protein. I eat processed foods very sparingly, if at all.

I'm trying to ramp up my...

Re: Pressing Help

About 10 ...perhaps 12. I'm doing 6 pull-ups six times a day on the frequency method. I haven't done weighted in awhile - but I'd say I'm somewhere around 25 lb for 5 reps.

Re: Pressing Help

Well I reset and went to 110 lbs on Wednesday. I changed up a few things - specifically a narrower non-flexed grip, tighter core, shrugging the traps up, and a faster descent to get into a groove. ...

Re: Pressing Help

Thanks guys - that's very helpful feedback!

Contrary to the press, my bench has been steadily improving. For the upper back, I just started FM pullups (and FM pushups, too). However, it doesn't...

Pressing Help

I'm doing the press as part of GSLP, and I've reset twice now on the same weight of 122.5 lbs. For some reason, I can't seem to progress much beyond this threshold, so I've posted up some video to...

Re: 1-Year Strength Gains - A Beginner's Result

Plan is to stick with GSLP and keep gaining, but add in FM pushups. Of course, I need to work on being more consistent, too (no offense taken).

I also want to find some way to incorporate some...

Re: 1-Year Strength Gains - A Beginner's Result

Yes, I had some difficulty on the bench and press - especially the press. Actually for the past 3-4 months I've been doing incline bench instead of flat to to try to address my shoulder and upper...

1-Year Strength Gains - A Beginner's Result

It's been about a year since I first posted here. From that first post, I learned that I really needed to get strong. So I spent the first 4 months doing '70s Big and then the last 8 months doing...

Re: Back Squat Form Check for Beginner

Thanks for the review - very helpful! I didn't even realize how much I was looking down. I think my tendency to look down at the feet is tied to my breathing. Each time I look down I'm gulping in...

Back Squat Form Check for Beginner

I'm a beginner doing GSLP and recently reset on the back squat at 225.

On my way back up I thought it would be good to get my form checked. Here's today's last set, nearly to failure, of 215 x...

What's next: Bumpers, Bar, or Rack?

I'm the lucky recipient of a CSN stores (now Wayfair) 15/20% off coupon that I need to use in the next few days. Currently, I'm doing GSLP (lots of static lifts) at home alone. I'm doing very...

What program for the generalist after 70s Big?

Four months ago I began the 70s Big program as an untrained novice. I've since made some good gains, and I am now re-evaluating my goals and training. Here are my numbers, at the beginning of the...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

Could someone elaborate how resetting works with a decrease in the increments?

I'm on week 12 and have hit a sticking point on my bench press. I have been going up 5 lbs each week. The last two...

Re: Power Clean Technique Checkup

Thanks - that helps a lot! I knew there was something wrong. I'll try to lock down those elbows and speed things up. It might be a tough habit to break - my brain is wired to lift heavy things with...

Power Clean Technique Checkup

I'm a novice progressing through the 70s Big program. I've read and have been trying to practice the technique taught by Rippetoe in Starting Strength. I had plateaued at 155 on the power clean but...

Re: I need you to guess what I weigh. (Pic)

Back in April I posted something similar in the Nutritional forum. I was also 5'10" and weighed 153. Based on the feedback that you're now getting, I went on the Simple Yet Effective Strength and...

Re: Knock-Kneed Beginner with the Major Lifts

Thanks everyone! This is very helpful. I'm going to check out these additional resources (and get the book) and keep working at it. I see now where I'm not doing some things correctly. It's funny...

Re: I Shed the Pounds. What's Next?

Thanks everyone. I'm not very far into this, but I think I'm off to a good start. Today was heavy squats and presses as part of "Monday" in the 70s Big program.

As far as diet, it seems like...

Re: I Shed the Pounds. What's Next?

Okay, I'm starting this today (70s Big likely). I have a couple of really amateurish questions though regarding diet.

I know now the goal is not to track calories, etc, but what I am looking at...

Re: I Shed the Pounds. What's Next?

Got it! So basically ... I need to get strong. To get strong, I pick up heavy things and eat everything in sight. Looking back, my mistake was buying into the calorie counting thing. Well that's...

Re: I Shed the Pounds. What's Next?

thanks everyone - this is very helpful! Since the consensus seems to be strength, I took today's workout to figure out my 1 rep max (and to make sure my OP #s were accurate):

Bench - 165; Strict...
