Re: Deadlift: Mixed Grip

I don't see that causing a problem unless you are lifting on a "fat grip" bar. If you find the standard 28mm Olympic bars are too large in diameter you might want to consider switching to a 25mm bar.

Re: Deadlift: Mixed Grip

Feel free use the hook grip for those as well!

FWIW, sometimes for additional grip strength work, I use a double overhand grip w/o the hook on warmup sets. I always use the hook grip for Olympic...

Re: Deadlift: Mixed Grip

I believe you'll be fine using the hook grip for deadlifting. That's all I use these days for the OL's, pulls and deadlifts.

Re: Deadlift: Mixed Grip

Just to clarify, I'm not advocating using the over/under grip, just sharing my personal experience. Hopefully Ben can decide whether or not using the over/under grip is worth it or not.

I won't get...

Re: Deadlifts weakened due to Oly form?

The first and second deadlift your hips need to be set lower at the beginning of the pull. Don't let your heels come off the floor. This was caused by premature hip extension causing the barbell to...

Re: Deadlifts weakened due to Oly form?

Thanks.

I actually blew out my medial/lateral menisci on that lift.

Re: Deadlifts weakened due to Oly form?

You might be overreaching and fatiguing your back. Both deadlifts and the Olympic lifts overload the legs and lower back muscles.

Also, why not substitute weightlifting specific pulls and deadlifts...

Re: Deadlift: Mixed Grip

Other factors come into play with bicep tears. Steroid use, lack of complete elbow extension, pulling on the bar in a ballistic fashion. Anything can happen. I've seen more catastrophic injuries from...

Re: Deadlift: Mixed Grip

I can see how alternating the over/under grip would help maintaining symmetrical grip strength, but not sure how much crossover there will be to other exercises that require a high degree of grip...

Re: Deadlift: Mixed Grip

I really don't see where an over/under grip would necessarily increase the chance of a torn bicep unless your arms are bent when pulling and you yank the bar off the floor. I've officially deadlifted...

Re: overhead squat and snatch

Tight shoulders and non hyperextensive elbows can make the overhead squat somewhat problematic. Although you can't do anything about your joint range of motion, you can work on your scapular...

Re: Wrist/Shoulder/Elbow Flexibility w/ the Clean

It's difficult to assess why you are having trouble properly racking the bar without actually seeing you in action. Could you post an image or video clip of you holding the bar in the rack...

Re: Weightlifting Technique Assistance in Reno, Nevada

No, but since weightlifting style movements happen to be an integral component of Crossfit, why limit the training benefits by doing the lifts incorrectly. I've browsed Crossfitter videos around the...

Veronica,

Hi! How are you? Still lifting at Sac State? Still working at the fire dept?

The image was taken probably in the mid '90s and yep that is Giselle. Remember her ankle injury? I was lifting...
