Thanks for the info, folks, and great timing indeed on the Rippetoe article on T-Nation! Lots of stuff for me to try, I appreciate it.

Re: Squat/butt-wink feedback tip (esp. if you workout alone)

Thanks Jason, that's an interesting piece. I'm not sure what I should take away from it though. I'm basically trying to follow Rippetoe's guidelines for the back squat in Starting Strength, and...

Squat/butt-wink feedback tip (esp. if you workout alone)

Hi folks,

I'm coming back from a spine injury, and am trying to be super-conservative about my form before putting any weight on the bar. One of my frustrations is just the slightest rounding of my...

Re: Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

No worries, William, I can see where you'd read it the way you did. :-)

Everybody, thanks for your input! I never quite got what I was looking for from a handicapping perspective, which probably...

Re: Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

William, when I said this:

I had hoped the "no way I can hold that pace for that distance" would convey what I meant, which was that 1:20/500m is extrapolated from my single best stroke. I...

Re: Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

Yeah, we've tried it though, and our strength levels really make a big difference. Shooting for the same target time I win easily, although he is almost certainly in better cardiovascular shape.

Re: Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

Aushion, we really like the workout template of doing 300m inside of X time, resting for 1:00, and stringing as many in a row as you can before failing to make X. If you can do 7 in a row and I can...

Re: Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

It occurs to me now that handicapping isn't really in the Crossfit spirit, so I might be barking up the wrong tree, but I know there are rowing experts here, and I also think the workout itself is a...

Re: Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

Thanks for the replies, gang! I'm probably being dense, but I still don't think that calculator is quite what I'm after. I'm more looking for a strength handicap rather than a weight (water...

Re: Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

Thanks Andy, I found that calculator, and it helps, but I still don't think it's quite what we're looking for, although I could be wrong. We want to know what makes our erg-to-erg contest fair, not...

Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

Hi folks,

A buddy and I are trying to come up with a fair handicapping system for a little rowing competition. It's the same workout I posted about yesterday: Do 300m in under a minute, rest for a...

Re: Good Rowing Working, C2 Pace Boat Question

Cool, thanks Omar! It really looked like the pace boat was going too slow at 1:40/500m, so it's good news that I have a little more wiggle room than I thought I did.

Good Rowing Working, C2 Pace Boat Question

Hi folks,

I recently revisited a C2 workout that I really like: 300m sprint, 1:00 rest, repeat as many times as you can until you can't do the 300m in under 1:00 (scale as needed). I can set this...
