Re: Working while standing.

I just wanted to resurrect this thread--are people still using standing desks and standing at work? How is it going now that more time has elapsed? I am starting my own standing experiment today...

Re: squatting with chain as part of the load

No...bands are much more intense. Use the bands for strength out of the hole.

Re: squatting with chain as part of the load

Have you ever tried using chains?

As someone who has used them, I can guarantee you that using chains will improve your position OUT OF the bottom...simply because the squat itself is a continuous...

Re: Low bar back squat - form check

This is just stupid. Rip would want you to be safe and to do the exercise effectively.

If you can do that without lowering the weight, fine...but most likely the OP cannot due this due to weak...

Re: Low bar back squat - form check

Yes, I have to second your knees collapsing inward. Your form is solid, but it seems like you have a weakness that is causing this to happen--it's not the end of the world, but is dangerous over time...

Re: Crossfit/Oly lift trainer in Baltimore?

I just wanted to update this thread...in case anyone else was interested...but I just had a lesson with Tim Guarino last night and I was extremely impressed. Tim is an excellent coach--helped me very...

Re: Portable pull-up station - 4x4's, pipe, and carriage bolts

This looks great--just a quick question: about how much did all of the ingredients run?

Re: Four Decades of Lifting Video Clip...

Yes, welcome, Terry.

So--now that you've been in this game for awhile--a question similar to Joel's--what are some mistakes you would avoid if you were doing it all again?

Re: Protein causes an insulin response too...

I don't think Taubes's explanation is incomplete or inaccurate, but rather the many fanboys who are like OMG! INSULIN BAD, YO!

You're largely correct in that inherently there is nothing about...

Re: Lowering triglycerides?

If I'm not mistaken, VLDL is in the TOTAL (which is HDL + LDL + VLDL), so it'd be 21, no?

In either case -- I would lower carbohydrate consumption if you want to reduce triglycerides, but I also...

Re: Blood cholesterol measured

Jeff -- I am not a medical expert, so take this with a grain of salt, but I am willing to bet that if you went on a low carb diet, your LDL and Triglyceride level would drastically plummet and your...

Can you say a little more about this?

What is the mechanism or explanation by which this would happen?

Re: Is 'paleo' really Paleolithic?

This question as well as what you found in Wikipedia is irrelevant. What is relevant is the notion of paleo that people have put forward in this thread and have asked you to respond.

You keep...

Re: Hybrid Program Heavy Metcons

Great thread.

Here are several:

Animals at the Track

This is best done at the track, although it could be done w/ treadmill.

- 200m sprint
- 200m bear crawl (inside of track)

Re: No Zone-No Paleo-No Problem for Mike Phelps

This sounds like a projection of your concerns, not necessarily anyone else's concerns.

What makes you think that everyone else gets as *stressed* about eating clean as you do? Perhaps some...

Re: right trapezius / or some other part of my neck that sucks

It is almost impossible to diagnose someone over the internet, but it is possible that your symptoms are originated from the mid-back/spine area and are due to a muscle imbalance with your lower...

Re: Clean vs. Bent Row

I'm not being snarky with this comment--but did those same people generally squat?

It's been my experience that if you squat or deadlift, then both lifts will continue to improve. If you don't do...

Re: Clean vs. Bent Row

Frankly, I don't think either one will carry over too much into the deadlift (although both will a little bit).

If you want to work on your lats, do the row--if you don't, don't.

Re: Gary Taubes lecture online

I agree, that review is ridiculous, but his basic point: that protein causes a glucose response is right.

And that's what many in this thread seem to be missing.
