Re: Reading while Working Out

The only reading I would consider tolerable in the gym would be in between sets if you are lifting REALLY heavy limit sets and you need 7-8 minutes for recovery time.

I think Coach Rip has...

Re: Newb

Just a thought on recruiting... A lot of the services are experiencing a serious case of "Bad Economy=Tons of Recruits" in conjunction with a terribly effective retention/bonus program. Many units...

Re: UVA/Charlottesville?

I'm going to be there 1 August... I hope someone opens a box between now and then. I will not have access to the UVA gyms (my fiancee will) and I'm willing to pay for the fitness level that can be...

Re: Core during back squat

TOTALLY SORRY. I hate when people screw up names. Mine's pretty easy, but my fiancee gets it all the time her name is Carolyn.... She's always getting people saying Carole or Caroline. It won't...

Re: Squat/Press/Deadlift Form Check

The biggest thing I noticed was the bar path.... it DEFINITELY drifts forward and you put the weight on your toes... Lose the squishy running shoes and your form will improve a thousand fold. ...

Re: Core during back squat

yeah, if you're going to squat beltless, the VM is doubly important. A belt functions by helping stabilize core muscles and gives you "felt" cues to keep your core tight. If you're not using a belt...

Re: Core during back squat

Breathing is incredibly important. Learn the VM and use it. Fix your form and wear a belt. I would advise against dropping the weight too much--going lighter will not necessarily fix your form.

Re: Missing a SS workout?

You might want to repeat the squat weight from your thursday A workout. I find this necessary when I skip a day.

Re: Back Squat Form Check Please ....

as alread said.... don't let your chest rise after your hips... You might want to "lead with your hips" a little but your chest needs to rise at the same rate. You're GMing quite a bit.

Knees...

Re: Core during back squat

do you wear a belt? When I'm squatting anywhere near 300 pounds I put the belt on. It helps for positional feedback and it gives you something to push out against with your back and abs, thereby...

Re: New WOD for Marines...scale question

I did something similar to this once in my basement a long time ago... just sorta trying out crossfit methodology. I did 10 rds- 10 135 DL and 10 PU. What a smoker. Great WOD. I almost honked.

Re: Hallelujah! I have seen the light!

indeed... good point. At least all the little crushed toes would be in there for the medics to find, rather than in a puddle on the gym floor.

Re: Hook grip, why use it?

It seems that people are missing the point... I don't know if it's been said already, but if you consistently do a hook on things like DLs and Pull ups, aren't you cheating yourself out of some grip...

This might be a form issue. Most people get stuck in the middle when they pull their chest up and this kills the...

Re: Hallelujah! I have seen the light!

ditto on the VS athletics for squatting. I've got a pair... You'll never go back. I've never lifted in chucks, so I can't compare, but I can tell you that there is nothing more stable feeling than...

Re: Isn't starting strength a bit hard on your nervous system?

[QUOTE=Steven Low;585131]As everyone said you should be hitting a new 5 RM each week.

QUOTE]

Just to clarify... if you're doing SS as presribed, you should be hitting a new 5rm pretty much...

Re: Easing into SS?

There are other form related issues that could be resuting in hip flexor pain-- too wide a stance is one of those things. Admittedly I didn't look at the digital coaching thing.

What works for...

Re: Continue with CrossFit or switch to SS?

You're dangerously underweight.... :) GOMAD plus 3 or 4 thousand calories of anything.... Hammer down. Good luck. You'll see huge performance gains.

Re: Looking to change things up a bit with a cycle of SS

The gains that can be made this way are not merely "a few pounds." Depending on the OP's current lifts and condition, he could add HUNDREDS to his CFT and PL total--over a period to be measured in...

Re: Looking to change things up a bit with a cycle of SS

I agree for the most part with the previous poster. If your MMA training interferes with your recovery, be prepared for earlier plateaus. If not, keep doing it. The milk helps not only as a source...

Re: Looking to change things up a bit with a cycle of SS

Make sure you read and understand his book (s). If you do the program as prescribed by Coach Rip, you will develop incredible strength. I put a hundred pounds on my squat and 120 pounds on my dead...

That said, what I have learned from squatting a lot and helping a friend...

Type 1 Diabetes-- anerobic exercise...

Hi, I'm relatively new to the crossfit boards, but I have been an avid lurker and fan of crossfit for quite a while. There seem to be a lot of pretty knowledgeable people on this board so I thought...
