Re: For Fun: Simplified Fitness Test(s)

I'd say your tests are way too biased toward short time domains, nothing longer than ~1min.

If I had to pick 3 I'd pick max deadlift, 20 mins max rounds of: 5 pull ups,10 push ups, 15 squats, 200m...

Re: Running a 5k advice

I'd say do 30 minutes tomorrow, 1 minute at 5k pace (so 10min/miles for you) and 2mins easy jogging x10. This should enable you to get a bit more used to running at a 5k pace but not tire you so much...

Hi everyone,
Thanks again for your advice.
After doing this program for a couple of weeks and a practice PFT on Friday I have decided to cut strength training down to once per week, and add an extra...

Re: Advice on training program and diet for military selection please?

Thank you everyone for your replies, some very helpful advice.

Aron, I have looked and follow the CFE site regularly, but I feel I need some more specific training for my goals than just CFE. Best...

Re: Advice on training program and diet for military selection please?

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your reply. I come from a rowing background, rowing about 100ks per week for some periods or 50k rowing/100k biking plus 1-3 weights sessions, so I'm used to a high volume of...

Re: Advice on training program and diet for military selection please?

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply. I will see how I feel on the metcon days, if I'm feeling like I need some rest I'll take it off or do some lighter technique or skill work (still haven't got that 1st...

Hi everyone,
I'm currently training to join the British Army with a view to joining the Parachute Regiment or a regular infantry regiment.

These are my goals:
1.5 miles run in under 9 minutes...

Re: shoes for Cross Fit?

Weightlifting shoes for weightlifting movements, a shoe with zero differential for everything else. The lightweight Inov8s are good, vivo barefoot, Adidas Samba, Puma Saloh, Vibram Fivefingers are...

Re: Rowing Intervals and Pacing

It depends entirely on how long the intervals are, how long the rest periods are, and how many intervals you are doing.

Generally, when I was competitively rowing I'd look at doing 4x1k with 5mins...

Re: The Zone's recommendation of oatmeal 3-5 times/week

I do find the anti-grain argument compelling, and I myself feel much better since stopping eating bread and pasta, and I feel awful now if I do eat them in any large quantity. However, even when I...

Re: Mountain biking and CrossFit

Check out the Crossfit Endurance site archives, Pretty sure I remember seeing a guy on there a couple weeks ago who did well at a 24 hour mtn bike race using CFE!

Re: The Zone's recommendation of oatmeal 3-5 times/week

Yeah, that's a good point, and you're right. Trouble is, going from 'roughly' paleo to die hard paleo would cost me an extra 5 or so per day, which being a student I really can't afford. This, on...

The Zone's recommendation of oatmeal 3-5 times/week

I've been reading the Enter the Zone, and today read the hormones chapter about eicosanoids, and it stated that one of the only foods possible to get GLA from, a substance essential for making 'good'...

Re: Olaf Tufte's training - would like to draw your attention to

Good idea! I bet with a bit of training in the all of the movements he would have a good shot at the games. I've read that his max back squat is 185kg (407lbs), and there's a video on youtube of him...

Olaf Tufte's training - would like to draw your attention to

For those who don't know, Tufte is the olympic champion in rowing in the men's singles in 2004 and 2008. I was browsing his website and found some pictures I (being a rower and crossfitter) thought...

Re: Advice on programming for a competitive rower

I forgot to add, my diet is pretty good, doing an eyeball zone apart from pwo nutrition which tends to be carb heavy with a bit of whey. And eating mostly paleo apart from the whey pwo and I can't...

Advice on programming for a competitive rower

Hello everyone,
I'm a competitive rower at the university level in the UK. This entails basically training four mornings on the water, two 'fitness' sessions on weekend mornings (think running and...

Re: Dr Sears and Omega-3

My fish oil capsules weigh 1000mg each. They each contain 180mg of EPA and 120mg of DHA.

I weigh 190lbs, according to Robb Wolf's recommendation, I should take 9g/day. Does this mean I should take 9...

Re: If you only had one pair of shoes...

I'd choose Converse Allstars, personally. Don't know if that would be good for you with your plantar fasciitis.

Re: Paleo Condiments

Over here in the UK you can get 'Reggae Reggae Sauce', which is sort of like a mild hot sauce, it's very tasty! It's basically vegetables and spices - pretty paleo friendly.

I'm trying to find a...

Re: Skins - who wears them?

I don't wear skins but I wear the 2XU compression tights and l/s top (basically the same thing) after training for recovery, and it definitely makes a noticable difference.

If the Skins ones are too...
