Re: wall ball standards

Actually, I'd add that if you think you have any shot at regionals, then stick to equipment as standard as possible (partly because of the extra scrutiny and partly because that's what you'll have to...

Re: wall ball standards

Eh, "medicine ball" is somewhat vague. I don't think they actually required the classic puffy wallball. Pretty sure many of the video submissions had more slam ball-like med balls.

That said, in...

Re: Box T-shirt question.

I basically only wear American Apparel t-shirts now. Not sure I'd keep buying shirts from the box if they switched.

Besides being soft and just the right level of stretchy, I really like the AA...

Re: well i registered for the open

I don't know... In the open, how would this go? Many people would warm up, start the clock, lift their max, and then stand around waiting for 4 minutes 50+ seconds until the deadlifts start. Not a...

Re: 2014 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

I think you are bizarrely overreacting to something here. Presumably, there is already a difference between members who donated $20 to the CF Games, I mean, registered for the open (said...

Re: is this WOD good?

I would recommend checking out the tutorials on the Concept 2 site, http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/training/technique-videos (wfs). Most likely he's got a low stroke rate, which makes things...

Re: which ~ 30 LB, ~ 6' bar for warming up with

Pretty sure Hamze never touched a barbell, not even a 30lb one. All pull-ups and running with that guy. Wait, did I say running? I meant walking.

Re: American Open 2013

Actually, we're sneaking up on two years now :) And slightly closer to the freeway now after moving down the street to a much bigger space. Easy bus ride from campus. Can't think of any undergrads...

Re: Pace for 5k row?

Like the others, I think 2:10 is probably a reasonable first estimate for you. I've been able to do a 2:22 paced 5k with a 500m best of 1:53. However, for me at least, the 5k is mainly a serious...

Re: Im so weak

Hey, you start where you start, no shame in that. The important thing is to keep at it, and you will get better and better. I would recommend keeping good records of your workouts, so you have some...

Re: How does my list look? Affiliate for 6 people classes

Eventually, maybe? But it's much nicer to from the start work on good barbell form, at an appropriate weight.

Plus, once you're in a metcon, repping things out, the lighter bar is super helpful. ...

Re: How does my list look? Affiliate for 6 people classes

Also, with its slightly smaller diameter, the 15kg bar is much nicer on our hands. Even though I can use the 45lb for all my lifts now, I strongly prefer the smaller one.

Re: very very very sore!!!!

I was brutally sore for probably my first month, but it did get way better. That said, I started out with just 2x/week, and it took me several months before I could handle 5x/week.

Re: Are there any one-week "Temporary" work-out programs?

When I go on vacation, I follow a strict scuba diving plan. It goes something like: eat, dive, eat, dive, eat, nap, dive, eat, dive, eat, dive, eat, sleep. Last time I followed this plan for two...

Re: Reasonable amount of progress 4.5 months in?

Chris, if you have other options for boxes near you, I would absolutely give that a try before giving up. I totally love my box (you can look up my yelp review if you're dying to see just how much),...

Re: Oly Shoes

When I first got my oly shoes (maybe about 4mo into starting crossfit), I felt they made an amazing difference. All of a sudden, I no longer felt like I would tip over backwards all the time Over...

Re: 2013 Open, Regionals and Games Thread

This is a little different, because I think the guy basically did the (still incredibly impressive) minimum work needed to keep his team in, but generally, I find the macho attitudes on pushing...

Re: San Francisco Crossfit- Worth It?

But 3.5 miles by bike in the hills of San Francisco might be torture; depends on the route. Ryan, I'd get ahold of one of the SF bike maps, which will show elevation change, to check if there's a...

Another data point: in the open this year, it was 14lb to 9ft (with men 20lb to 10ft).

If you mean Berkeley Crossfit on San Pablo, you could always try a free class and talk with the trainers about whether it will be a good fit. (I've been at BCF for almost 8 months now. Not sure...

Hard to go too heavy without squat racks. That said, I'm also an OHS fan.

Re: 13.4 strategy

Bummer. My wishful thinking got my toes closer to the bar than they've ever been, but not quite there. However, I saved the day by continuing to clean and jerk after, and I got a new 1 rep max at...
