I've used soda to get rust off of old weights. Let it sit in a bucket for a day or two, and you may have to use a wire brush to get some extra sediment off. Works wonders.

Buy some fake snow, or some cheap pillows from walmart. Duct tape cotton to the ball until its about 14in in diameter. Makes a great wallball.

Another method for saving your arms from bruising is just slide the cambuckle to the top before starting.
