The new pendlay econ-bumper plates are steel, not brass inserts.

The Pendlay economy bumper plates actually have steel inserts in them now, not brass. I'm looking into getting these as well.

As a related question, what sort of ground is it suitable to drop...

What sort of surface are you using the bumper plates on? I'm curious as to what type of flooring surface you're expected to drop the bumper plates on. Obviously concrete isn't approved so...

Those rings look great! What did you use to cap the ends of the piping while baking to keep the sand from falling out? And did you wrap that piping around something to get a good shape?
