Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I use it to help me keep my knees in the right spot - I hate squating without seeing my form.

Re: Crossing Over To CrossFit: 5 Things you should know when starting CrossFit

Fair enough, but I'm fairly certain that the community setting and the competitive environment is one thing that is pretty much a pillar of the Crossfit methodology. Some rare people can push...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Or that the type of catastrophic injuries or death that occur when the gym is completely empty except the one person being injured is rare. People go to gyms for long spans of time (at least at...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Don't get me wrong - I'm friends with this trainer and I know this trainer knows his stuff. He legitimately knows Oly lifts and was a successful collegiate athlete and competitive bodybuilder. I've...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

That's exactly how I watched a trainer back home teach a young (14-15 maybe) hockey player (who was a client) to do cleans: deadlift into reverse curl.

It didn't just look like that, that's...

Re: SWAT prep/team workouts

For the pair/team aspect, one thing that I always enjoyed when I was training for college football was training against my opposite number (I was a receiver, he was a DB). We would push each other...

Re: Heard in the Office Today

I'm a bit surprised at that. The Corporate Challenge in Edmonton sees teams from both the Edmonton Police Service as well as the Edmonton Fire Department. Do your local emergency services not...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I would just say "You're wasting MY time."

Especially if I have to put my squats on hold for 20-30 minutes while he does this. I don't care that he's wasting his time.

Yup, unless you have a BBQ with a really heavy lid or at least a locking mechanism :P

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

See, I don't get people who do that - their egos are so important to them that they can't even give props when they are shown to be wrong on something like that. For me, if I had been dumb enough to...

Re: Seen in Public today

Maybe if it's above-ground. However, there are a TON of people I know who get turned right around when we take the underground platforms. While you and I might be able to figure it out, there are a...

Re: Why we all should be doing direct neck work

This was how we did it for football during our "4th quarter" endurance/cooldown exercises at the end of practice. We'd always do the exercises with our helmets still on - surprising how heavy one of...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

To be honest, working as an elite athlete makes staying fit easy. When you stop training daily (with a purpose/goal/objective/coaches threats) it's really is a shock to the system. So many of my...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Yup, usually if it's a young kid lifting solo with bad form, I'll talk to them about it. Usually talk to them about where they learned or how long they've been training and then we carry on the...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Not seen, but retold to me later by my girlfriend.

She was doing squats at the local Y and apparently some Jersey Shore-type idiot was staring at her *** the whole time without her knowing. That...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I used to drop 10lb plates (or less) from my hand and catch them on the top of my foot (kinda like a soccer-style trap) to cushion them. It was on to rubber mats and I wasn't being stupid about it...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Happens ALL THE TIME at my gym back home. I tend to have to dig them out from behind plates on the Smith Machine or the Leg Press. Then I get funny looks for deadlifting.

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Jump shrugs? Like a hang clean without the hip drive or catch? Seems kinda pointless...

When driving I lift a finger (either index or thumb) everytime I pass a pole/sign or cross a noticeable line on the pavement (shadow/tar/cracks).

Same. Though this is just simply something I...

Re: Seen in Public today

My girlfriend was going to get me a Raphael TMNT Snuggie for my birthday as a gag gift, but they were sold out. I was a little choked when I found out I wasn't getting it :(

Re: Seen in Public today

I'm understanding it as - if you aren't a certified expert (ie - hold a degree in the field), then trying to correct said experts won't work, regardless of how you've learned the new information.
