Re: Iron Cowboy

He came into my work a few weeks ago (I manage a cafe at a gym), and ate something like 3 bacon egg sandwiches with extra egg and 2 protein shakes. This was shortly before he began his swim in...

Re: Deadlift Grip

Mixed grip would almost always be advisable on heavy sets, and if you feel like your grip needs extra attention just give it more work. Pull-ups, deadlifts, cleans, kettlebell work, farmer's walks,...

Re: foam rolling

There is no bad time to use a foam roller. Use it whenever you feel something needs some work. I really like to use mine a few hours after a workout when a little bit of DOMS might be setting in.

Re: Mass gains now or later?

I disagree. Personally I am eating around 5500 calories a day, working out once a day in the morning with maybe a short mini-workout in the afternoon on some days. Other than my workous I try to be...

Re: Finally some GOOD new Metallica!

Lol that first line was good.

They might be bazillionares now, but they are still coming up with some dang good music. They are still selling records and people are enjoying them.

Re: What happened to the "Clean and Press"?

I do barbell clean and presses over jerks almost exclusively right now. I just can't afford to drop a failed jerk attempt at my university gym. Besides, pressing rules.

Re: Finally some GOOD new Metallica!

You guys are nuts. Metallica has been kicking *** since 1981. The new CD is far better than Reload or St. Anger, but not quite as good as Master of Puppets or the Black Album(which is an absolutely...

Re: "Grace" Rules

It's just a workout guys. As long as there is a clean and a press/jerk it is legit.

Re: Muscle recruitment in pull-ups

Very good point. Just because you can't "feel" a muscle working doesn't mean it isn't.

Re: Knees popping during back squats

Is it just when you are warming up or all of the time?

Re: "women weaken legs"?

On "There is Something About Mary", Ben Stiller's character was instructed to rub one out prior to his date based on the idea that after ejaculation a man is able to think like a woman or something...

Re: Rings without drilling

Once I find a camera I will take a picture of the bed I built for my apartment. It is made out of a bunch of construction lumber and has some pipe running off of it I use for pull-ups and ring work....

Re: Holding Bar on Front Squats?

I like using the clean grip because it really forces me to loosen up my forearms.

Re: Hybrid Program Heavy Metcons

I have been doing double kettlebell clean and jerks for reps using 6/5/4 minute intervals with 8 minutes rest, and 3/3/3/3/3 minute intervals with 5 minutes rest (not on the same day, just...

Re: Can you get strong with kettlebells?

Yeah I should have been a little clearer on the sarcasm. :)

On a serious note, kettlebells will get you strong as long as you are overloading your body with progressively heavier weights and more...

Re: If i have one day a week in the gym..

If you only have one day a week in the gym, maybe a front squat and snatch grip deadlift combination would be a good idea.

Re: question on chin ups vs. pull ups

I am pretty sure as long as you go from a full extension to your chin going over your hands, the grip doesn't really matter. Personally I have been using a supinated grip for pull-ups lately because...

Re: Can you get strong with kettlebells?

Kettlebells will not get you strong at all, you are just going to get hurt using them. They are just to light to elicit any kind of strength gains; don't let anyone tell you differently.

Re: Pull-up bar

I have done thousands of pull-ups on that bar and never hit my head, but my style of pull-ups has me kind of leaning back at the top. The only way I could hit my head is if I was pulling straight...

Re: Theory.. an hour long tabata?

You could do a 20/10 work/rest ratio for 60 minutes, but it really isn't a Tabata. It seems like pushing through a workout like that would hurt you more than it would help you.

Also realize that...

Re: Converse All Star Shoes-Should I get High-Top or Low-Top?

I wear high top chucks, and I kind of like the extra ankle support.

Re: Pull-up bar

Heck yes you can. In my avatar I was kipping with 2-40 lb (80 lb total) vests. That thing is indestructible.

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

What if you don't have access to bars? Kettlebells are a fine alternative. Even if you do have access to bars, why not do both? Both can be used effectively to increase athletic abilities there is no...
