Re: Thoughts after 2 cycles of 5/3/1
I get what you are saying, but I happen to disagree with it.
It seems that the most successful people in CF and CF games have a pretty serious athletic background.. Like Division 1, amateur, pro,...

Re: Thoughts after 2 cycles of 5/3/1
I can't help but feel that some of you are missing some key points of 5/3/1.
A "cycle" in 5/3/1 isn't like a typical say 12 week powerlifting cycle or something.
It's more of a wave program...3...

Re: Vegan Paleo
That's 19% OF 80% according to that document.
It works out to about 64g of carbs from grains, with about 41g of carbs from rice and a meager 23g from other grains (wheat, etc).
That is not a large...

It's certainly not a straw man argument. I think you just keep looking for any reason why grains are important because it's been beat into your head ever since you can remember that whole grains are...

Not in my wife's family.
And so, you still haven't shown that they EAT GRAINS as their main carbohydrate. You'll notice that on your link only 19% total comes a combo of rice and grains. So out of...

Not my facts:
73% of Hunter-Gatherers obtained <50% of their energy from animal products.
Only 14% of HG obtained <50% of their energy from plant derived food.

Oh you made a typo. Let me fix it for you:
they all eat a largely protein-rich diet with lots of plants and little to no grains.

Re: Vegan Paleo
There is this thing called science. In particular, biochemistry. It explains why people feel bad AT FIRST on low-carb diets. I don't have to know you.
BTW, a "staple" is NOT a "grain-based" diet....

Coconut fat is MCT's and are available as quickly as most carbs.
There are no cultures that do well on "grain-based" diets. You are welcomed to post a link that proves otherwise. But I haven't found...

If the question is simply" can a vegan do crossfit" the answer yes. Mike Mahler, although not doing crossfit, is a clear example of someone who can be absolute beast without meat.
But...Mahler...

Re: Paleo Blood Work Results
Agree!
Unless your "red meat" is local grass-feed, you've got to watch the fat in meat...as Robb Wolf, Berardi and Cordain have all said in carious ways: fat is where the nasty stuff hides".

The best overall book out right now is mark sisson's The Primal Bleuprint.
Robb Wolf's book should be out by the end of the year and it should very good.

That's why I said I don't understand what he is trying to do.
It'd be one thing if he said his goal was to increase "cardio", but he didn't. He wants to increase his raw strength numbers. so that...

I don't think humans are meant to survive OPTIMALLY on any kind of extreme diet whether its "95% meat" or vegan...both are completely absurd and plain stupid.
By our nature we are scavengers meant...

Re: Wendler 5/3/1 and crossfit
I don't understand what you are trying to do.
It seems you have two goals: build strength and do mma.
If those are really goals, who cares about "gpp"?
Doing mma is about as "gpp" as you can get....

Re: Paleo Diet...lean you, lean wallet?
What?
28 pieces of meat a week is insane. That's four chicken breasts a day roughly.
Going paleo to gain weight is a little assbackwards. I don't know if I missed the specifics but I would LEAN OUT...

I got to think it was user-error.
Personally I don't think much about zone, it's just a way to measure portion control.
