Re: Stop Anthos from Taking over CrossFit

Does seem odd.

Is there much in the way of evidence of Anthos actually screwing over the companies it has invested in? I am sure that some may not like everything that occurs, but someone with...

Re: Conjugate Method vs. Linear Progression

Re: For ANYONE that questions Westside

Yes, I have a right to an opinion. So do you.

Because I chose to exercise this right I get insulted?

Stellar, positively stellar.

And again with the sweeping generalizations and straw man...

Re: Conjugate Method vs. Linear Progression

There was a time when Westside did not use chains or bands or any form of accommodating resistance. Louie's team still did well.

Really, what makes Westside great, in my opinion, is the fact that it...

Re: For ANYONE that questions Westside

I have just as much right to an opinion as anyone else. Have been at one meet where he had a squat that was incredibly high get passed. This one did not look any lower.

I am not happy with the...

Re: Conjugate Method vs. Linear Progression

Key point being you are working with them.

Most people are clueless. Yes, my attitude could be better.
:)

Every program should start out with very light weights. Beginners should practice three...

Re: For ANYONE that questions Westside

From having judged I have no idea how many thousands of squats. First time in the judges chair was late 80's. Hell, I caught 964 when Moses Battles dumped it (I was spotting one side). Of course, he...

Re: UFC 134-Silva Vs. Okami

Why was I not surprised to read this from you?

:)

I hope they both win myself.

Re: For ANYONE that questions Westside

If you are going to reply to my posts, at least do me the courtesy of not making straw man arguments out of them. I write fairly clearly.

If you actually want to reply to my post, given the above...

Re: Conjugate Method vs. Linear Progression

They do not have to learn as many.

Beginners generally benefit from skill practice more than anything else, why not take advantage of this? By practicing only a few skilled lifts (three, really) and...

Re: does cf make the athlete or do the athletes make cf?

You are never going to get the best of both worlds. Sort of the "no man can serve two masters."

Pick something, focus on it, and do it right. If you have any energy left over, work the other thing...

Re: Conjugate Method vs. Linear Progression

Do you have a coach to teach you a wide variety of exercises to rotate for Westside and/or a good working knowledge of exercise selection and programming?

Re: For ANYONE that questions Westside

Saw it. I have yet to comment on PL Watch, I am not taking part in that ****-show.

High. Not sure how high because I was not there, but obviously high remains obviously high.

And I never said that...

Re: For ANYONE that questions Westside

This.

I train Westside, for the record, and have since I started reading Louie's stuff in PLUSA after converting from OL'ing in, I think, the late 80's? Maybe very early in the 90's. But that still...

Re: I don't even know what to title this thread...

Well, I have never been in a car accident.

I have dropped ****loads of barbells over the last 30 years, including warm-up weights just because something strange happened.

Sometimes you need to...

Re: Defranco on Crossfit for Athletes

While I suppose that an unsupported assertion is technically an answer, that does not make it correct.

Please support your statements with something vaguely resembling empirical evidence.

Re: Defranco on Crossfit for Athletes

Yeah, ya' know, after spending 20 years as a hockey player and 30 years as a strength athlete, nearly every practice was identical.

Nah, not really.

Guess which sport I had to focus on being...

Re: Defranco on Crossfit for Athletes

Wow. Glad I never had you as a coach.

How I trained for hockey was vastly different than how I trained for weightlifting. For obvious reasons. No one cared what I could snatch or clean as long as I...

Re: Defranco on Crossfit for Athletes

Intensity is traditionally defined as "percentage of 1rm."

By that definition, many Crossfit workouts, although difficult, rate low on the relative intensity scale. Perceived intensity is a vastly...

Re: Defranco on Crossfit for Athletes

What exactly do you base this on?

Take several athletes:

1. Volleyball player.
2. Offensive lineman.
3. Swimmer.
4. Triathlete.
5. Ultra-runner (who finishes)
6. SHW powerlifter

Re: Is this a muscle up?

It has nothing to do with the weight he was using. I was comparing his form to many crossfit vids that are said to be acceptable. These includes vids of snatches and jerks that are pressed out, etc....

Re: Is this price for oly lifting coaching reasonable?

Think of it like this:

Good instruction in the basics of solid technique not only get you better and stronger, they result in your being less likely to injure yourself doing something that could...
