Re: More Snatch PR's - 225 lbs

You need to wait over the bar longer and finish with the hips through more and faster.

Re: Hook Grip for small hands?

What Katherine is saying is squeeze the pinky and ring finger when you hook grip as well, they will add in a lot of control with pulling.

Re: are power cleans useful for the majority of lifters?

Sticking your toes off the edge of a platform and lifting helps with that :). What's funny is people don't realize you have to be relaxed to a degree in order to move fast, kinda like how you can't...

Re: are power cleans useful for the majority of lifters?

Big difference. I like it, just don't hesitate on that initial pull and wait longer over it (although I'm sure your coach has said this).

Re: are power cleans useful for the majority of lifters?

Andrew, yes it takes years to become very proficient and lift reasonable weights at them, but the learning period to develop acceptable technique is pretty short. You can teach someone to lift well...

Re: are power cleans useful for the majority of lifters?

Have you done anything that Starrett posts on the mobility wod? That stuff is great for fixing many mobility woes.

Re: are power cleans useful for the majority of lifters?

Excuse me if I offend...

But please say that was sarcasm because it gets a LOT more competent than that.

Re: Snatch PR - Form critique

Or you could just move your feet out from the start. I like that you plant your feet in the same position so you could just move your feet to your squat stance and pull from there.

Re: are power cleans useful for the majority of lifters?

People need to stop thinking that the Olympic lifts are hard to learn. They're fairly easy if you have someone competent at teaching them, just like a squat.

Re: Clean/Snatch help

Stop forcing your arms straight, long and loose, you're way too tense here.

Set your back tighter in extension like John said.

Get off your heels at the start, you're balanced too far backwards.

Re: Black Eleiko from Rogue - opinions?

Red women's bar? I'm interested to see how that is going to look.

Re: Squatting Advice (Mirrors & Lowering Speed)

I think looking at the floor is to keep the head in a neutral position, and not hyperextended, because the torso is going to bow over in a low-bar squat.

Re: Clean & Jerks from today

Think about squatting under that bar as fast as possible, that can help someone a lot with the speed.

For hyperextension, it's really just relearning how to stand properly and engage the right...

Re: Clean & Jerks from today

Not bad. My suggestion is:

- Move faster from extension to full squat

- Work the hell out of your footwork on the jerk at lighter weights, you're short stepping these way too much and are...

Re: Squatting Advice (Mirrors & Lowering Speed)

I agree with Lee. If you have no choice but to squat in front of a mirror just keep eye contact with yourself. It isn't stationary at all BUT it is moving with you throughout the entire squat so it...

Re: Cleans

Nice lifts, maybe a little more leg drive and tighter catch but not bad at all.

Re: OLY standards?

Because the Olympic lifts are snatch and C&J, and the chart that you gave from Rippetoe only covers the basic strength lifts and power clean.

Re: OLY standards?

The numbers are a little different but at least there is a women's and youth section as well.

Re: Mix and matching bumper plates on a bar

As long as the larger diameter bumper is on the inside, it ought to be fine.

Re: Snatch Form Comparison

Not close enough for both of them. Again, if you really get that thoracic extension going you'll have no problem keeping it within your area of balance.

Re: Snatch Form Comparison

Not terrible, but you need to keep your back a lot more arched throughout the entire pull. That ought to fix some of the other errors you've got (like the bar not staying close enough and shooting...

Re: Snatch criticue

To add to what Jeremy said: you are also hitching when you bring the bar to the hips instead of making it 1 fluid movement.
