Re: Not a kid anymore...
I'm 48, I work hard but the gains are slow. I wish I worked this hard when my hormones were still raging.
I've been experimenting with doing a strength day followed by a metcon day followed by a...

Re: Studies to confirm/prove CrossFit efficacy
Research in training can only be used as a guide. Research is a perfectly controlled situation; the real world is different.
The best you can take from the research is that with group A for B...

Re: Studies to confirm/prove CrossFit efficacy
That's all well and good, but for yourself who states he's not interested in finding the best program I still wonder what this is about? CF integrates many of these already tested protocols. I think...

Re: Studies to confirm/prove CrossFit efficacy
Again, you are the proponent of testing. I ask you, to what end? Include diet, exclude diet, it's all secondary. What are you trying to determine? What is the purpose? Define your goals in testing....

Re: Studies to confirm/prove CrossFit efficacy
But to what end, and against what control? Is it, in the absence of such tests, your assumption that such measures will go down relative to the athlete doing no exercise and eating a poor diet? I'm...

Re: Studies to confirm/prove CrossFit efficacy
Since this seems to be something you've investigated for other programs, what turnkey program currently is "best" according to the measures you espouse? What exactly would you be comparing CF to?

Re: What Crossfit is NOT
I wouldn't sweat it, Harry. There are a lot of people who think CF could benefit from a bit more strength/BB work. Plenty of CFers even do bicep curls, they just keep in in the closet, to spare...

Re: 20 rep squat program vs. SS
What he's saying is that the arm work you do elsewhere - via pullups, pushups, presses, etc, - will cause the stress on the arms; but that stress will benefit from the systematic neuroendocrine boost...

Re: Studies to confirm/prove CrossFit efficacy
You're telling me what you think, and seem to be asking me what I think. I'm not really here to judge, I think CrossFit is great for the people who like this style of training. That it's a good...

Re: Studies to confirm/prove CrossFit efficacy
Using the CF repertoire is stacking the deck. The claim is that CFers will do comparatively better at activities that neither athlete does. Since CF tries to do "everything" one needs to thing more...

Re: Studies to confirm/prove CrossFit efficacy
It's all about "to what end," "compared to what?" and "for whom?"
I think we'd all agree that CrossFit leads to better fitness than laying on the sofa eating twinkies. I think we'd also agree it...

Re: Studies to confirm/prove CrossFit efficacy
There is a problem with perfectionsism. It's not enough to enjoy something and get good to great results from it, some people need to be certain they are doing "The Best" program, as if there is such...
