Re: How to lose my gut!

This is bad advice. The OP is likely overstressed and adding in HIIT is just going to make matters worse. Oh and spot reduction is actually possible just not in the sense that most people talk...

Re: hurting from push press

Two things:

1) I am not a fan of this WOD. The amount stress on the front delt is borderline dangerous. It is just overkill for me, even at just 135. I would avoid workouts like this.

2) You...

Re: FLynn-Fran Kettlebell WOD

Yeah, it has nothing to do with time under tension. Your shoulder press isn't less than your push press because your delt spends more time under tension. It is less because a smaller muscle group...

Re: FLynn-Fran Kettlebell WOD

Holding aside the discussion of how this matches up against CF Fran and whatnot, we can all agree it is a good workout. So the question becomes, what are the training benefits?

This is basically...

Re: Debate: Is it possible to be effectively "topped out" in a given fitness categor

Yeah I gotta say I am so confused by this whole thing.

If the question is whether there is some theoretical genetic ceiling to the human capacity for strength then the answer is obviously yes. ...

Re: Thoughts on "Forks over knives" Documentary and "The China Study"

Then don't say it is "ethical" say it is "financial."

Plus, do some research. There are ways to get the costs down. http://www.eatwild.com/products/floridaresources.htm wfs.

If you are too cheap...

Re: Gym Jones article in NY Times

The elitist attitude and poor programming is free.

Seriously, what do you people care if some dude is willing to pay $50/month for email correspondence with someone else? How could you possibly...

Re: Thoughts on "Forks over knives" Documentary and "The China Study"

No offense but this post perfectly illustrates the logical inconsistencies of a vegetarian diet.

Many vegetarians start with the "ethical reasons" premise. Take dairy for instance, although you...

Re: Weight for beginners

This.

Start the pushup on the wall if you need to.
Progress to incline pushups off a bar in the rack
Do the same for pulls - making them more and more horizontal as the client progresses
Do planks...

Re: Gym Jones article in NY Times

Twight was right about fitness.

Glassman was right about business.

Not surprisingly those are opposing ideas.

Crossfit is part Zumba class and part elite fitness. It is just the way it is.

Re: Fingal cleans, center point cleans, landmine cleans, etc....

With a landmine.

I do them just like you would do fingal's fingers. From the ground to the clean, then push press.

I think a snatch would be too difficult/dangerous.

Fingal cleans, center point cleans, landmine cleans, etc....

For about the last year I have included what I call "fingal cleans" on my variety days. The name is based on the strongman event "Fingal's Fingers." I really enjoy them and think they are a great...

Re: workout routine

Lift heavy, lift dynamically, and train to eliminate weaknesses.

Keep volume and intensity at a level that will sustain gains and increase work capacity but not cause over training.

Constantly...

Re: Female Strength Levels

This!

I have posted on here several times the downside of "goal setting." The problem with beginners is that they don't know enough to know what goal to set. What are they good at, what do they...

RKC Snatch test = stupid?
SSST = retarded?
Your opinion = intelligent?

I am guessing you have absolutely no idea what "done correctly" would look like.

Re: is there any value in this workout?

This. 1000 swings for time isn't a great workout but don't discount it as a challenge. I've seen dudes attempt 1000 snatches with the 16kg without putting the bell down. This seems easier than...
