Re: Is Paleo even Paleo?

What's really Paleo is opportunism :)

Obviously "Paleo" is a foundation for making better decisions than the average person - and I think a lot of its value lies in the overall quality of thought in...

Re: Cholesterol, Nuts, Fruits, and Autoimmune diseases

I agree with the mitigation of inflammation at all costs, but I also think it's interesting to note that most lectins seem to be destroyed by heat. (The lectin argument is getting dated, and quickly,...

Re: Zone : mayonnaise help

Werd.

Considering everything from digestive capacity to gut flora can change the # calories you extract from food, i'd extrapolate that the Zone is NOT something to be obsessive about. If you like...

Re: My 2 Part Series on "Demystifying Supplements"

Hey there,

This is interesting stuff. I'm a fan of CLA, but I much prefer to get my zinc from oysters ("food supplement") to maintain proper zinc-copper balance. I've found this is a good...

Re: Nutrition help for a vegan

I have to agree. (Everybody eats, so everybody's a expert, no???) I'd never eat nuts at the expense of eggs. Allergic potentiality aside - although you'd likely experience an allergy to the albumin...

Re: College Life Crisis

Definitely get that business degree. I wish I had that.

I got mine in English. To this day I don't know why I thought liberal arts was so translatable.

If you want some type of certification in...

Re: Legumes

I think the lectin argument RE: beans is probably not as solid as we once thought, but regarding "the more you eat, the more you..." thing...beans do contain longer-chain tri/tetra saccharides that...

Re: Forks over knives

Mike, check out the "Raw Food SOS" link provided above. Denise Minger (known for her rebuttal of The China Study) does a nice deconstruction of the movie, point-by-point.

Re: progenex -vs- stronger faster healthier

If only "science" as it's conducted today were so discerning ;)

I see what you're saying and can see where one would like to assume that the potential absorption issues would have been taken into...

Re: progenex -vs- stronger faster healthier

Absolutely. Most of my individual experimentation, and the self-testing going on at our gym, colored my thoughts regarding PWO nutrition. I worked backwards from there, then reversed direction to...

Re: low carb, high fat?

Oh my god. Do you get yours from US Wellness Meats? It's the only place I've found it that's additive-free, and it's the most amazing thing ever.

Re: progenex -vs- stronger faster healthier

My article was definitely expressing my interpretation of a few things: the science I’ve found applicable and valid; real-life gym-based observations (“what happens in practice”); and – admittedly –...

Re: any good protein bars?

I'm biased, of course, (I work for them) but I love Spinach Stix from Steve's Original. It's tough to find a good portable protein source, so beef jerky is pretty much it for me. Add coconut flakes...

Re: Is anyone else usually NOT hungry right after a workout?

Part of the reason your body is telling you "not hungry" is because you're operating via the messages from your Sympathetic Nervous System. To over-simplify, you're still existing in that...

Re: Cooking with Nick Massie Cook Book...

Huge need for this. I'd love it. I head up the nutrition component at my box and would love to have this in my toolbox, in addition to the unWAM approach from Primal Palate. What's your timeline?

Re: Natural Sweeteners

I'd consider using whole fruits, liquefied in the blender like I did for this bbq sauce recipe: (WFS)

Re: Nut butters

For what it's worth, if you have problems tolerating nuts it may be worth soaking/dehydrating some and making your own nut butters or checking out the ones from Wilderness Family Naturals

Re: Wondering if it gets easier

Agreed. I feel better when I scale a bit such that I get a great workout and maintain a high level of "try hard" without struggling to perform. There can be a fine line there.

Re: Crossfit journal 21 vs. Fitday

Oh - and from my experience, the elite CrossFitters run the gamut from Paleo, eat-whatever-I-want, Paleo + dairy, Paleo-Zone-ish, and pretty much everything else under the sun.
