Re: Steve Cotter Snatch-Bar v`s KBs?

Here's a good video to see the Elite of the KB Lifting World.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTuLmT4GInI

They are lifting 32kg/70# KBs. You are given 10 minutes to do as many reps as possible...

Re: Humbled by the kettlebell

Your experience in not uncommon! In fact, people usually split into two camps when they have a workout - they love 'em or are indifferent/hate them.

I would have suggested you get a 12kg instead of...

Any CFers in London have contacts with the Fire Brigades?

I have been contacted by a top-notch trainer in London (whom I helped certify at the RKC back in 6/05) who wants to get involved with the London Fire Brigades. She currently is training a multitude...

Re: overhead squats...impossible?

Loaded stretching works great. Try this - do some weighted, straight arm pullovers on a bench. Lay cross ways, lower the weight as low as you can, then do an isometric hold, flexing your lats and...

Re: grip / forearm training for rock climbing

Don't forget the extensor work!

Climbing work and CF entail a lot of gripping and pulling, but you need to work the extensors. Ironmind had bands and grip tools.

Just like you need to have to work...

Re: kettlebells price

Based on the the picture of Ader's "pro grip" I've seen, I wouldn't recommend it. The straight part on the handle is way too wide and the angles are wrong.

If you are serious about KB lifting - you...

Re: kettlebell handle width

Don't worry about your pinkies - in fact, having them out will give you better stability overhead. The main pressure/pull is on your first two fingers and thumb. The pinkie running up alongside the...

Re: Noob Scaling Question

another thing to add...

the usual schedule is 3 on / 1 off

If you can do it, fine, but once you start scaling up more, you may need more recovery time due to age.

Coach has said that some 40+ y.o....

Re: Noob Scaling Question

Have you searched on the "Starting" section of the forum? That would be a good place to "start".

BrandX Crossfit posts scaled workouts on their forum

here is a link to it -- WFS, most...

Jelli's OHS Performance - #1 lesson

Congrats to Jelli for her outstanding performance.

The key thing I saw was that she returned her low back to neutral when she stood up. When I have seen others do it, they lock their low back in the...

Re: KB snatches

Chris,

you need some instruction. If you could figure it out, you would have done so already.

You need to pull the KB closer to your body at the top (arm bend about 30 degrees) and then punch the...

Re: Taking the Pushup to a Greater than 90 Degrees Elbow Bend

What usually "ruins" the shoulders is when the upper arms form a straight line, putting a lot of strain on the shoulder capsule. Keep your upper arms about 45-55 degrees away from your torso (zero...

Re: $16 Kettle Balls

could you post a picture of them? Maybe next to some other, more well known KBs, if you happen to have some.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Kettlebell Handle

KB handles are only passable for swings and throws. The tight triangle would make it tough to grip correctly, and put bad pressure on wrist/forearm bones.

Also, the weights need to have rounded...

Kelly,

great article in the CF journal! Nothing like being a cover girl!

After reading your above post, you might need to cut way back on KB work to avoid a bone bruise. I developed one during the...

Re: Picked up my new Kettlebells, any advice on care for them?

Jay,

the CAPs are way better than most cast iron KBs, as the handles of the 16kg are very close to the competitive handle dimensions.

Send me an email at kbfiremantom AT yahoo.com and I get send...

Re: Kettlebell Arm Positioning

Brian,

most professional KBers wear wrist wraps (see comp vids) and I use sweat bands (cut off the tops of crew sox) to both cushion the forearm a bit and to prevent sweat from getting on the hands...

Re: Let's compare Kettlebells!

George,

the handles are great on the AKC, don't worry. The nice curve on the inside of the handle makes two handed swings just fine. You only have pulling force on the first three fingers anyway -...

Re: Picked up my new Kettlebells, any advice on care for them?

Jay,

unless you are going to do high rep / GS training, the CAP/Apollo slick finish should be fine. No need to sand off the handles to bare metal (for chalk).

If you want to get int high rep/GS...

Re: Double KB deadlift - wide stance ok?

Do you mean a sumo style DL ? bells inside legs - feet angled out

Regular DL stance? Feet hip width - KBs outside feet

140# won't be enough weight for improving your DL, but doing 1 leg DLs with...

Re: Attention Firefighters...!!!

Are you in "college" or in the Fire Academy or both or??

My advice is do college first, get a job, work a while, get some maturity and life experiences under your belt, then try and be a fireman....
