Fitness Competition
Is it accurate to say that crossfit games athletes have world class strength, but would not make the varsity squad on most high school cross country teams?

Thank you for all the input and help. I greatly appreciate it.
All of the input has been valuable to me. I'm really not at a point where I've reached a plateau or a sticking point...I've...

Re: Negative Reps
I'm 5'7, 175#.
My max squat is #270.
I've seldom done squats or deadlifts, so I don't have sufficient weight in my home gym now to max on deadlifts (I need to get bumpers). I have 405# and...

Negative Reps
I've never really seen any programming that calls for negative repetitions for increasing strength. In the past, negative repetitions seemed to help with increasing my bench press.
Are negative...

Thanks for the insights. My problem is really more than just my weight and running. I think the core of the issue is that my goals really have changed, but I have a fear of losing the things I'm...

I've been contemplating the same issue from the other side of the fence. I stopped wrestling after college and mostly focused on lifting because I enjoyed it most. I put on about 20lbs, most of...

Case in point here. Jamie wants to critique the form being used to complete the movement...even if full range of motion is achieved.
Jamie...do you also have a problem with snatches that are...

Re: Form?
No, I think this is perhaps where all the miscommunication is coming from. I don't mean "form" as a means to describe the "movement" itself. My problem is with defining and judging the precise way...

The last few posts are very good. The person who says go floor to overhead in one movement is right where I'm at. That's defining the movement and the task to be performed. I simply like this...

Here's my logical proof.
1. If fitness is defined as the ability to perform a random task.
2. Adding requirements as to the method in which the task need be completed automatically introduces...

It did determine who was more fit at driving stakes. Had a form for stake driving also been required...it would have determined who was most skilled in using the form.
Does a snatch determine who...

Re: Form?
Why would the movements need to be pre-defined? You go to the games and you need to be prepared for anything. However when they tell you what work to do, its defined as a task. There is no form...

No, I'm not confusing form and range of motion.
Sure snatches may have a purpose for training. But as a contest of fitness, why define the form?
Someone used the example of running...instead...

I've been watching a lot of the videos posted for the crossfit games qualifiers and it stikes me as strange that there are so many events in which there is a correct "form" to the movements.
If...
