Re: Longer Rest During Strength Sets

Why not just get the SS book and follow it? You'll learn more than just the 5 minute question.

Re: Intensity vs Form

Better to aim for 100% form knowing you might not always hit it than to lower the bar from the start.

Being in the ear to help cue moves correctly is good and helpful; non-critical encouragement is...

Re: Rippetoe's recent comments on Crossfit

Wasn't trying to highlight a typo. Was just bolding the word that made the statement ludicrous. Average Joe, whatever that may mean, may see average xfitter, whatever that means, and think strong,...

Re: Rippetoe's recent comments on Crossfit

the main expression, no? The official one?
This smells like a defense one would hear in a HIT forum.

Re: Rippetoe's recent comments on Crossfit

It also makes sense to say people try focus on strength bc they need to and aren't getting it from their program.
The appearance that the average xfitter Appears incredibly strong is ... Want to say...

Re: Rippetoe's recent comments on Crossfit

Elite What?

This thread is funny. The wealth of programs that are xfit like but have a greater focus on strength is the best argument that xfit lacks something in developing its athletes' strength.

Re: 5 3 1 programming

I guess I will have to go back and edit my post - that typo of week for month will haunt me forever, and no one sees my post acknowledging it already.
I guess it's a terminological thing but I see...

Re: 5 3 1 programming

Add 5/10 a month, my mistake, must be insane.
You can also reset. If you do your last single and add some new PRs to test, you can reset for your next month if you have gained 20# that month.
but...

Re: 5 3 1 programming

Agreed. Buy the manual, people. At 20 bucks it's 2% the cost of a $1000 cert without travel fees, less than a week at a globo gym, and you learn and support a guy who's had success as an athlete and...

Re: 5 3 1 programming

5/3/1 is pretty linear - add 5/10 lbs a week. Sounds like a straight line to me.

"Question: Is this program for advanced or beginner lifters?
Answer: I’ve used this program with both beginning and...

Re: Why can I do so much more work with moderate weight, so little with heavy weight?

Dan John had an excellent take on this in a
recent article at Tnation mixing strength and size - high rep squats and
low rep work. Find it. If your goal of a big front squat and repping that same wt...

Re: maintaining strength?

Either you are asking because you will be forced away from strength training for a while - for which I am sorry - and you'll have to deal with a comeback, or you don't care about getting stronger.

What makes you think there is one answer? It will depend on your training diet genetics etc.

Re: Different Philosophies About Strength Training

Slow... sounds like HIT or something equally "psuedo-science based." 60% however is low/moderate intensity.
Wait, I may have read this post wrong.

Re: Dropping the bench press from SS?

Agreed.
It is not the movement that makes the bench functional. It is the adaptations caused by benching that make it functional. It is probably the single best exercise at increasing upper body...

Re: Charles Poliquin on CrossFit again!

I don't think exactly. I think the lower rep higher weight stuff is where you get strength from, first. It's the most important benefit of doing heavy stuff.
