Re: Looking for help with a training program I'm writing

Nathan, I am 26 and would indeed need an 18 minute time to max this test out. However, the 6 minute mile goal is an intermediate benchmark for me. I will likely have nearly a year before my unit runs...

Re: Looking for help with a training program I'm writing

Thanks for the replies, the percentages are a goal based on an estimation that comes from a CFJ and a couple other sources looking at various sports and which energy systems come into play and in...

Re: Swimming Metcon

Underwater crossovers done on 30-50 seconds depending on your ability for 10 or so reps will smoke you. You have 30-50 seconds to swim underwater 25m, no breathing, whatever time is left on the clock...

Re: Looking for help with a training program I'm writing

Forgot to add my nutrition piece: I've been trying to use paleo with a 40/35/25 ratio as much as I can, but I am pretty far from the super-FOBs and I don't have a lot of access to great food options....

Looking for help with a training program I'm writing

Hey folks, I have been writing a training program that I want to commit to before I head back to the states (I'm deployed) and was hoping I could get some critique points before I call it done. My...

Re: Boot Camp and Recovery time

I can't speak for OCS myself, but what has been said sounds in line with the friends I have that went the Officer route. For Marine Corps Recruit Training, PT and Incentive Training (IT) and boot...

Re: Shooting enthusiasts....

AR10 is the AR rifle chambered in .308. 25 and 30 round magazines are available, but they cost quite a bit and reliability isn't there in comparison to the 20's. M1a's are another option. Either way...

Re: What sports do you guys do

45 would be the top end- base training during the winter or training camps in the spring. This was when I was in college and got a bit of a scholarship to ride and the fact that they paid for all of...

Re: Rant: Unhealthy Friends Ignore Advice

I have a coworker who, for a number of reasons, I can't STAND to be around. She asked me the other day how she could lose a lot of weight fast... I said "diet and exercise are the only option". She...

Re: What sports do you guys do

As a Cat 2 I was putting in anywhere from 20-45 hours a week on the bike. Probably more in the fall as that was mountain bike season and I would add some shuttles or dirt jumping days in to work on...

Re: Anyones significant other have no interest in exercise, let alone Crossfit?

I'll agree with the other posters, it's a real pain when the bf/gf/spouse isn't on board and rides you for wasting your "home" time working out. Add to that, the fact that my gf and I work opposite...

Re: Resting HRs

When I was a cyclist, my RHR was 39 BPM. One of my coaches had me use my waking RHR as an indication of possible overtraining for a while. These days I'm in the low 50's, but I'm working on getting...

Jake- when were you in STA Plt 2/7?

Mike, keep in mind, the challenges ahead are going to stress you mentally as well as physically. You're definitely on the right track seeking advice from these...

Calorie content of homemade jerky?

I've done a search and looked through google- my search-fu is weak on this one. How do I determine the nutrient content of my home made jerky? I make about a pound or two at a time- does a pound of...

Idea for WOD- running intensive

Just wanted to post a workout I've been doing for a few weeks and see if anyone has some input or suggestions. It's going to be pretty hard on the joints due to the weight involved, so I don't do it...

Re: Quit smoking challenge

I'm there with you- started shortly before going to Iraq, and was up to two packs a day (of Reds) before coming home. I started chewing over there as well. I am down to about 2 packs a month (just...

Re: M4's - Noveske or LMT

For the most part, a lower is a lower. The upper is where 99% of problems and performance issues will be. If you'd like to try and save some money, buy a cheaper lower (RRA, DPMS, Stag Arms etc...)...

Re: M4's - Noveske or LMT

several manufacturers are offering them in 5.45mm now. That is probably the best deal ammo-wise as combloc ammo can still be had in bulk for cheap.

Re: M4's - Noveske or LMT

Choosing a rifle will come down to a lot of things, mainly, what are you planning on using it for. If it's a DMR setup where accuracy is key, I'd spend the extra money on the Noveske. If it's an...

Re: Do most of you do the 5k run?

For a run that short, I'd just push through it. It might not be the best idea, but I don't plan on carrying tape or mole skin on a 10k. For a long run or ruck, I'd change socks out every 5-10k, tape...

Re: Building a dummy for drag/fireman's carry etc...

I had thought about that- using a large sea bag or grain sack that would be the same weight, or even using my heavy bag that is sitting unused right now (no room for a punching bag in the new house)....

Re: Weight loss and recovery

I know it's faster than normal, and it has to be. I have been outside my weight limit for the Marine Corps my entire career, and because my PFT scores were good and my performance was always on par,...
