Re: I have been doing Rippetoes SS for a year now...

That's a long time for SS. I started it two months ago and already hit a big roadblock, which was due to a vacation/lack of training, but I can't imagine making gains for a whole year. I was just...

Re: Thinking about getting NSCA certification

Yeah the site was slightly helpful but didn't have any practical advice.

My degree isn't in sports science either but I've been reading up on the subject for a few years now. I've seen a lot of NSCA...

Thinking about getting NSCA certification

Any advice from people who've been through it?

I'm leaning towards the CSCS even though I understand the test is harder. Unless someone confirms that's it's WAY harder than the CPT cert, I'd rather...

Re: Chewing the fat?

When I'm cutting, nuts and cheese are the first to go.

Re: Dietary Confessions of a Crossfitter

I'm about to cheat. Usually I am really good about not doing it. I never cheat when it comes to food, unless 100% dark chocolate or raw cheese is a cheat. But sometimes I cheat with liquids. Namely,...

Re: Law Enforcement "Diet"

I eat a salad every day, sometimes two. :)

For Subway, just get a wrap and don't eat the wrap part. Eat the insides with a fork.

Re: Is homemade almond butter cheaper?

Do NOT add water at any point. Once it's finely ground you have to keep going. It will stick to the sides as a powder, but just scrape it down and spin, and repeat for many hours (not really, but it...

Re: Has it really come to this?

I'm paleo and like Kevin, I haven't had a single bowl of ice cream or piece of cake since turning paleo. Maybe twice, I have had flour tortillas, and gumbo a few times.

For some reason, I find this...

Re: hating burpees

I hate burpees but I literally use them as part if not all of every conditioning routine I do. If I do stair sprints, I finish with burpees. If I do Tabats, burpees are always there. I guess I'm just...

Re: Cost saving tips to nutrition

How much cheaper is the costco meat, in general? I might have to get a membership.

Re: My Amazing Cheat Day

The reason I ask is that I find I cheat way less, and way less severely when I don't plan anything and just let things happen out of necessity rather than convenience. I'm curious as to what people...

Re: My Amazing Cheat Day

Q: Do y'all schedule regular cheat days, or do they just happen from time to time?

Re: TUF Season 8

I agree this this philosophy. The show isn't about discovering amateurs. It's about showcasing future stars. I'd rather see very talented guys who have been waiting for the big phone call rather than...

Re: How do you get enough fat?

The only caveat I've heard regarding that is that paleo man's kills were "free-range grass-fed," so to speak. Supermarket meat is packed with fat that is the result of being fed grains in a cramped...

Re: How do you get enough fat?

Fat is not a problem for me. It starts with meat and eggs and I throw in fatty oils and avocados, and if that's not enough, reach for some nuts.

Re: Orthorexia - an eating disorder for those who eat healthy.

I don't really see how this a problem anymore than a number of other OCD tics. If someone eats very healthy and is obsessive about doing so, how will that hurt them? They may miss an opportunity to...

Re: *FRUIT & VEGETABLES* Friday Food Fact Files #4

I get my organics from the farmers' market. I find they are more trustworthy. Plus the food LOOKS organic (meaning not fitting into one pretty size, shape, and color) and you can ask the farmer about...

Re: Loose Paleo

I've been loving paleo. I only end up cheating maybe once a month, and it's never a deep-end cheat. Usually something like too much beer, a bowl of gumbo, or something of that nature. I have yet to...

Re: Binge anyone?

If you eat a good fat source with the waffle it might slow down the effect of the blood sugar spike. Have some eggs with it.

Re: Curious to hear what peoples favorite zone/paleo non fruit fast carb sources are?

Sweet potatoes or yams for a lot of carbs, but mainly just veggies.

Re: Binge anyone?

I live with my brother, who eats the most ungodly things, so I have the same situation. There's always ice cream and junk food and instant meals staring at me. I think it makes me stronger to resist...

Re: Is a low-maintenance diet possible?

I'm with everyone who says paleo. Just eat all-natural food and forget counting. I find when I track myself in FitDay, even without counting macronutrients, I always stay within a certain range:...

Re: IF'ing one day a week

Once is good if you just want to try it out, but for best results you should work your way up to more IF days. Personally I usually do about 5 fasts of 16-18 hours but even just 3 would be good.

I...

Re: Izzo's IF experiment

My first two weeks of IF were rough with regards to energy, but they coincided with me switching to paleo. After my body got used to it, I've never felt better. I have to force myself to not IF every...
