Re: Crossfit Total numbers help?

As far as being considered a novice or an intermediate lifter, as has been beaten to death here and elsewhere, you are a novice lifter if you cannot add more weight to a lift every time you do it....

Questions before joining an affiliate

So it looks like I'm finally going to be able to join an affiliate, and I was wondering what questions you guys would want to have answered before signing up. Besides things like cost and coaches'...

Re: Slightly bigger elite runner, and a discussion on strength and endurance

This is an interesting thread, and as usual we have the debate about the ability to run fast over middle to long distances while carrying significant muscle mass. A few thoughts from a former college...

Re: Chest Excercise and Crossfit

I'm interested that you've lost some flexibility where I gained it. On the other hand, I do shoulder dislocates with a progressively shorter strap every time I squat to get in a better position under...

Re: programming choice

Not to mention it's damn near impossible to afford a membership unless you're making a reasonably cushy salary. Anyone know of a quality affiliate that'll let you join for $50/month or less?

Re: crossfit exercises.wod's for mountain/rock climbing trip this summer

I injured myself on my Metolius board, though in their defense it was me being stupid. Hang boards are fine for a beginner as long as you

1. stick to the jugs, slopers, and large edges
2. keep off...

Sub for kipping pull-ups

Yeah, it's kind of a weird question, and I know I've seen it on here somewhere, but my google-fu is not strong tonight, so I'm asking you guys. What do I sub for kipping pull-ups if the gym where...

Primary care physician in Portland?

I just moved to the Portland area, and I need to find a primary care physician, preferably someone who is an endurance athlete as well. I've got Kaiser insurance, so it has to be one of their guys,...

Re: Any experience with race calculators/predictors using only CF and CFE?

Put it another way: Galloway assumes that if you are using his calculator, you haven't spent years developing high-end aerobic conditioning. It is interesting that he (or someone he's paid) has...

Re: squat depth and flexibility good/bad for GPP?

More to the point, if you have figured out how to make this sort of change in athletes, please tell us how. I, for one, would be willing to say thanks with a case of beer, at least.

Re: Any experience with race calculators/predictors using only CF and CFE?

Calculators generally try to fit you to a common economy curve and then estimate your performance from there. Since they are based on your performance, they're mostly agnostic about your actual...

Re: Strength Program Q's

Joe, just out of ignorance, what was the IF thing you were referring to? Other posters seem to either know of it themselves or are ignoring it, but I'm curious. Apparently it is some sort of eating...

Re: GPP Testing

Just a couple of things about the tests I know something about.

First, I was interested that you A) only mandated one metabolic endurance test, when the others you list all have different ratios of...

Re: Cross Country and CrossFit

Barry is right. This is sport specific stuff, and so that should have primacy over your general preparation. However, as an adult who has continued to train for the middle-distances, I can tell you...

Does anyone know of any place to do pull-ups in Bozeman? Playground equipment is ok.

Re: Lynne Rest Time

Ok, but surely there is some standard to be found here. I mean, if there's really no time component, you could make this workout last 5 hours which, while impractical, would also be very different...

I've been away from climbing for about a year after 4 years of steady climbing, and I want to get started again this summer. I was thinking about what to do on my finger board once we find an...

Re: Heart Rate

If you're basing your max HR on 220-age, it's important to know that number will only be accurate +- 20 bpm. In otherwords, at age 36, your max should be between 164 bpm and 204 bpm. Also, your max...

Re: Push-up Question

As Rip has pointed out, opposing muscle groups are often being used even when they're not the major mover. When you do push-ups, it's not like your biceps are just along for the ride, they are doing...

Re: Starting Strength and feeling wiped out?

If you check out the SS wiki site, they'll tell you that if you know your 5RM, you should program to reach it at the end of 4-6 weeks, 6 being the best if you can stand it. http://tinyurl.com/rc9rzr...

Re: CrossFit and Tri-Athletes...How do they work together?

This is a non sequitur. We are talking about endurance performance, not sprinting.

I concede this point as I know little about ultra running.

The argument is false in that it assumes there is...

Re: CrossFit and Tri-Athletes...How do they work together?

I see this argument all the time from the CF community, and not only is it false, it misses the point. First, Endurance training in intentionally catabolic because there is an energy COST for every...
