Re: Combining Wendlers 5/3/1 with Crossfit?

I'm currently doing 5/3/1 template and using metcons as my conditioning. Like you, I also play a sport (hockey) regularly too.

I currently do the 2-day split as Wendler lays it out and on those days...

Re: Create your own WODs?

They way they advocate to program in the Level 1 certs is to combine movements that are from three basic categories (Gymnastics, Weightlifting, and Monostructural).

Gymnastics- pretty much anything...

Re: Back Squat PR Check

Looks to me like you're upper body is falling forward a lot on your squat. Are you bringing your shoulder blades together on your set up? Bringing your elbows down and forward? Making sure your chest...

Re: Deadlift

The thing that really stuck out for me is that your squat is significantly lower than your deadlift. Bring your back squat up and it's very likely your deadlift will increase too.

Re: crossfit total?

It works that you have three attempts to hit a one rep max on all the lifts. So you do your warm ups then try three singles on each of the three lifts. The highest of each makes up your total.

i.e.)...

Re: Knock-Kneed Beginner with the Major Lifts

The only thing I think I can add aside from the other replies is that I would change your grip on the press. You're holding it in the rack position which is popular for more explosive overhead...

Re: LB Squat form check

It's actually a good thing that you have a slight falling back sensation. Just make sure to keep your core stable by breathing in through your stomach and holding that breath for the whole rep.

Re: Squat and Bench Press Critique

I did SS about a year ago (did it directly after the sectionals as I realized I was comparitively very weak) and got great gains after doing it for 3 months and then stalling. I did not reset and...

Re: Squat and Bench Press Critique

Robert- I decided to go outside of the cage as these weights are relatively light for me and even though I am going for "max reps" on the last set my plan is to leave a couple in the tank and not go...

Squat and Bench Press Critique

Hi Everyone,

Did my first 5/3/1 workout yesterday in the hopes of gaining some needed strength. Was hoping to get some feedback from the community on my squat and bench form. Any criticism is...

Re: my muscle up

Looks rock solid buddy. I'd say the only thing you might want to watch is your elbows flaring out a tiny bit. Really good form though.

Re: Split Jerk Help

Thanks for the help!

I think with the heavier weights I'm still nervous about getting in to a proper catch position in the jerk. I'll work a lot on the behind the neck jerks and also some footwork....

Split Jerk Help

Hey Everyone,

I did the split jerk WOD today from the main site (I know, I'm really far behind). I was hoping I could get some critiques from the community on my split jerk. I seem to have a really...

Re: Realistic Strength Goals Without Gaining Weight

To give you an example from personal experience. I followed Starting Strength strict for 3 months (My conditioning would be WODs on my off days. So I did 5 on 2 off). At a bodyweight of 145lbs...

Re: handstand push up??

What's your strict press at? Is it close to your bodyweight? I know when I was having a lot of trouble with handstand push-ups I found a lot of carry over from working on my presses (strict, push...

Re: Question about pull-ups grip

Use whichever one you prefer. While, technically, palms facing outward is called a "pull-up" and palms facing inward is a "chin-up" I don't believe that distinction is made here. Mix it up at first...

Re: Squat/Power Clean Critique

With the squat there's obviously the issue of you not getting deep enough (hip crease below the knee bend, as Rip says in SS). Other than that it seemed like a good squat. Just keep the mental cue of...

Re: Inspirational Quotes

Haven't seen any of these yet, but they're some of my favourites.

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great ones make you feel that...

Re: Practicing Double Unders

I remember seeing something from Again Faster on double unders and also something from Greg Amundson on the CFJ. Try and find either of these and it should help.

Re: The clean jerk??

The thing that always helped me with the clean was to just think "JUMP!" as soon as the bar hit mid thigh. I found the rest usually takes care of itself from there. Other than that keep doing what...

As an asthmatic (not sure which you have but mine is exercise induced) let me tell you that possibly the best thing you can do to decrease the effects of your asthma is to workout. The more you...

Re: Introduction

Thanks! I scaled the deadlifts because I have a 1RM of 315lbs and feel that so many reps at 225lbs (a bit over Rx) decreases the intensity that I'd like to have in the workout. Would you suggest...

Re: Reps of 1-1-1-1-1-1

You have the right idea. You're trying to lift your 1RM seven times. You can do this workout two ways. One; you can use the seven lifts to work up to a 1RM, or two; you can try and lift the same...
