Re: USAW Standard
First lift, three red lights for sure. Second lift had a press out in the left arm. There can't be any movement of the elbow after the lifter has hit the lowest point in the jerk.

Re: Coaching women...
I also take exception to that statement.... I've seen many guys who so uber-competitive, they will do whatever it takes to "win", such as cheating reps, ROM, etc. I had a guy pass me once in a...

Re: Indoor gym photography buffs?
I don't do a lot of indoor photography myself - I mostly shoot birds outdoors with a Canon 1D Mk III and a 500mm f/4. However as others have noted, your challenge is the need for high shutter speed...

Re: Still can't do a single kipping pullup.
I had the same problem - I could do strict pullups but it took me a year to figure out kipping. It was very frustrating because I had the strength but there were so many WODs that I couldn't Rx...

Re: appendicitis
Mine ruptured suddenly when I was in 8th grade (30 years ago.) I'd never had any issues with it before, and the pain wasn't localized to that side, so my parents didn't realize what was wrong until...

Re: Olifts: Shrug back, or shrug up?
Jon North's videos have really helped me, particularly his "hit and catch" series. He is a big advocate of making contact with the bar.

Re: Where's the Girl Power?
We had a 1RM chinup test yesterday, my goal was +35 lb and I wound up working my way up to +42.5lb which is 1/3 of my body weight!! :pepper:

Re: Liz's Quest for a Muscle Up
Thanks! Things have been going pretty well lately, I like our gym's new format of posting these baseline/1RM days a month at a time. It's a lot of fun because I love testing myself. Tomorrow we're...

Re: Where oh where is Lisbeth?
This is totally off topic, but my first name is spelled Lisabeth. Very close to yours ... and the source of endless spelling errors which is why I go by "Liz" usually. ;)

Re: Liz's Quest for a Muscle Up
I got the dates wrong in my previous post. They were July 14 and July 15.
Tuesday, July 19: We hit a record dew point of 82 and tied a heat index record of 119 here in the Twin Cities. I wasn't...

Re: Liz's Quest for a Muscle Up
Thursday, July 17: We took on "Lynne" for the first time. I had no idea what to expect because I wasn't sure what I could do for 5 rounds. So I was shooting for a score of 10 each round, with 70%...

Re: Liz's Quest for a Muscle Up
Thursday, July 7: Attended weightlifting and PR'd the snatch at 35kg and the clean and jerk at 50kg. Finally my total is at 85kg! We have a meet coming up Oct 1 so I'll be training for that and...

Re: Liz's Quest for a Muscle Up
Hi Milton, I'm doing pretty good! I just kept the same log, though I'm mostly just updating it with PR's and not every WOD. Sounds like your paleo nutrition is working well for you!

Re: Where's the Girl Power?
PRs are so fun! We did max box jump the other day and I hit 35.5". My goal was 36" so I consider my goal met! I was fine up until 33" and then I hit that wall of fear, so I had to try this several...

Re: Affiliate skips ever short heavy day.
I visited an affiliate out of state several months ago, one that follows main site. That particular WOD started with a lift and to my surprise, I was the only person to show up for it. The trainer...

Re: Where's the Girl Power?
Nice job Tricia! A PR is always nice to get even if it's not quite what you were shooting for .. same thing happened for me with "Cindy" last week, but I'll take the PR and get my goal the next time!

Re: Banded MUs
Yes, I used them and they definitely helped. I progressed to smaller and smaller bands until I got down to the smallest one (#0) and then I was able to do a muscle up for real!

Re: Where's the Girl Power?
Got a 1RM overhead squat today of 115lb (PR by 10lb). That's the most weight I've had overhead in any lift! :pepper:
