Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I wanted to watch the Olympics weightlifting, but on the NBC site, that was the first video, and then there was a video of a guy dislocating his elbow (shudder, didn't watch), and then a video of a...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

You can bail on a squat if you know what you're doing (see this guy on his last squat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLGV7nzHcWM&feature=related WFS), but not with straps! [For the best bail ever,...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Seen yesterday: A guy squatting up to 315 (decent squats), except that he was strapping his hands to the bar.

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Seen today: a guy who spent literally about 30 minutes in the squat rack doing nothing but stretching. Every possible stretch you can imagine, he did it. Putting one foot up on the barbell (facing...

Re: Denny's cheese stick melt

If only they could combine that with the KFC Double-Down -- cheese sticks between two pieces of meat.

Re: A man of strength's man!

Or check out his 484-lb push press: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sAs02Bu1Ns, followed by his explanation of how much weight it was. "Thank you very much to other side of ocean." Video mostly...

Re: A man of strength's man!

Last time he did an exhibition in Glasgow 4 years ago, he deadlifted the same weight, but only once: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65jovqRDaDs&feature=related [wfs]

I think he must have started...

Re: Koklyaev in Glasgow

Wow. And watch his feet after the final snatch (at 4:13). That's confidence.

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I'm 6'4" and about 240. But a guy walked in yesterday who made me feel small -- probably the biggest guy I've ever seen. He proceeded to bench press, and worked up to 585 (6 plates on each side). I...

Re: Pull-ups and run not improving

As a 240-pound guy, I sympathize. For running, smaller guys always have a huge advantage. Chris Solinsky (current American record holder in 10K) is famous for being the first guy over 141 pounds to...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

For some reason, that scene always struck me as the funniest in the movie.

Re: Deadlift: Snatch grip vs. Overhand

Koklyaev. Yes, he hook grips.

So does Brad Gillingham: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NIqkF_B-wY [wfs]

Also this extremely strong 20-year old: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6enKOXeqlE [wfs],...

Re: Koklyaev the singer

Fair enough! I loved that video (along with the smart-aleck comment from somebody: "Surely using both legs is making it too easy?").

Koklyaev the singer

He's probably the strongest pianist/singer out there right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q67ia6TzwWA [wfs]

Check out the 915 pound hook-gripped deadlift from the other day (he obviously has...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I think I know why . . . I just happened to pick up a muscle magazine in the airport today, and there was some article about "legs" that recommended doing "squat machine deadlifts" just like you...

Re: Silly BS or Hooray for the BMI?

Right . . . people always talk about the paleo lifestyle, but it makes no sense to me to believe that the paleo environment would have encouraged low body fat. I bet that in a world of scarce or...

How to dump a squat

I was impressed with one of the most recent videos from Koklyaev, both for the squatting and for the way he gets out of the last rep. Seems like something you'd want to practice with lower weights...

Re: Weighted Planks= Awesome Exercise!

Weighted planks sound like something to try. This exercise (from Koklyaev) also seems like it would hit the abs pretty thoroughly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0ydTz_DekY [wfs]

Yeah, here's Pat Mendes squatting 350 kg (772 pounds) at age 19, no belt or wraps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xFm9q1HBKY (wfs)

Re: Oinging Steven Low, RE: Colostrum

Was about to make a smart-aleck comment until I realized y'all are talking about COW colostrum.

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Unfortunately, not for us tall guys -- if I press overhead, I hit the top of the squat cage, which was rather disorienting the (one) time that I tried a lift there.

What a real Paleo diet looks like

Found this National Geographic piece via Crossfit NYC: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/print/2009/12/hadza/finkel-text [wfs]:
Baboon brains, eyeballs, etc. Anybody really up for this? :)
