Re: Wendler's 5/3/1 and Deadlift day

I think this is great advice.

Another option would be to go by how you feel. Most DL days, just do the required reps but if you feel good (maybe once every cycle or two) do more. Jim has said...

Re: Research Study: CrossFit Injuries

Well, because the study is injuries in Crossfit, not injures in HIIT.

It is a bit of a problem, because Crossfit could include just about everything or nothing. Is a squat Crossfit, or...

Re: The definition of being "big"

The athletes you mention don't really need "well balanced" with the possible exception of the fighter. A high jumper in particular is every bit as specialized as a PLer.

Re: Research Study: CrossFit Injuries

In this case, the "garage warrior" was not following CrossFit. CrossFit doesn't have a monopoly on high intensity exercise. People were doing activities like this long before CrossFit came around....

Re: Research Study: CrossFit Injuries

No, I don't really see your point. In both of these cases, you would obviously not be doing crossfit.

Re: Research Study: CrossFit Injuries

Are you doing crossfit? Does the fact that you run change your program significantly enough that it could no longer be considered crossfit?

If the answers are "Yes" and "No" respectively, then an...

Re: Did Rippetoe get CrossFit right?

Very good post. I think this is exactly correct.

Re: Did Rippetoe get CrossFit right?

This is a logical fallacy. Rich may be "training", but since Crossfit is many different things you can't take what Rich does and apply it to Crossfit in its entirety.

I've got some ocean front property in Montana for sale if you're interested.

Re: CF and Steroids article

You don't need fancy analysis to know that a significant portion (likely the vast majority) of athletes at the top of any high profile sport are cheating.

Re: Did Rippetoe get CrossFit right?

You've clearly mis-understood his point. My guess is this is intentional on your part.

Re: Did Rippetoe get CrossFit right?

If you go beyond main site, then crossfit can be practically anything. In some cases it is "training" and in some it isn't. Rippetoe's comments appear to be just about the main site.

Having a clear...

Re: Did Rippetoe get CrossFit right?

You may want to re-read the article.

Rip agrees with you. For the average beginner, Crossfit (main site) is great. For people who are advanced, they need something more thought out and structured in...

Re: Did Rippetoe get CrossFit right?

The goal isn't the issue. The problem is that the main page doesn't ask or address the following questions:

what is needed to improve my fitness (am I too weak, does my cardio suck, does my...

Re: Did Rippetoe get CrossFit right?

Your post here contradicts both itself and what crossfit.com posts. You speak of a "workout" rather than a training cycle. You mention "Train your weaknesses" and yet I don't think the mainpaige asks...

Re: Did Rippetoe get CrossFit right?

I don't agree with you here. I don't see any implication that the task must be "monomodal".

Re: Did Rippetoe get CrossFit right?

I agree with this.

There are so many different things done under the name "Crossfit" that you can't really say one way or the other. I think the Main Page is "exercise" while what many people here...

Re: protein intake vs weight

I'd go with 1g per lb of bodyweight (or if you like per lb of lean bodyweight assuming these aren't all that different). In general, if you want to accomplish something it's a good idea to emulate...

I agree with this. Any time I hear the word "cleanse" with respect to diet, I immediately think BS.

Re: Preparing for powerlifting meet. Should I metcon?

I'm sure metcons are taking away from your recovery. However, since the contest is 6 weeks away, I'm not sure how much of a difference this will make.

How important is your performance at the...

Re: 875 lbs squat in knee wraps only

I'm pro-IPF (I compete in the CPU), but I think it is silly to claim that Norris is drug free. He may be, but that certainly isn't known for sure (and I kind of doubt it). He does at least have to...

Re: 875 lbs squat in knee wraps only

Mike T only finished 3rd in his weight class at world's last year. He might beat any US lifter (honestly, I don't know) but at this point he can't really claim the top spot in the world at 120.

Re: What is your #1 strength training question?

I know Jerry. He's a good guy and there are several other lifters who are quite strong at his club. It would be a good place to train.
